With Gotenks defused and Buu recovering, all hope seems lost until Old Kai reveals that Gohan's power-up ritual finished five minutes ago. After an emotional farewell with Goku, Gohan teleports to Earth with Kibito, dons his father's iconic orange gi, and races toward the battlefield as Buu inexplicably decides to take a nap.
The situation looks grim. Buu regenerates from his injuries while Gotenks nervously laughs it off, and Piccolo accepts defeat as inevitable. On the Sacred World of the Kai, Goku urges Old Kai to hurry, pointing out that the boys have already defused. Old Kai casually reveals that the ritual actually finished five minutes earlier; he simply waited because it felt more dramatic. Gohan demands to know how to access his new strength, and the old man explains that it works similarly to transforming into a Super Saiyan, combined with focusing a kiai. Gohan concentrates, and the sheer force of his power nearly blows everyone off their feet.
Visually, Gohan looks almost unchanged, and Goku is stunned to realize he has not even gone Super Saiyan. Supreme Kai says they must hurry to Earth, but Kibito volunteers to take Gohan alone, insisting the two Kais would only be in the way. Goku, unable to return to the living world himself, realizes this will be the last time he sees his son until Gohan eventually passes on. He tells Gohan to beat Buu, and the two share a hug before Kibito teleports them away. Old Kai grumbles that nobody even thanked him.
On Earth, Gohan asks Kibito for one favor: a change of clothes. He wants to fight in the same gi his father wears. Kibito obliges, materializing the outfit in an instant after a brief, humorous exchange about the exact shade of orange. Kibito departs, wishing Gohan luck, and Gohan takes flight toward the battlefield.
Trunks and Goten, no longer fused, assume they are about to die. Piccolo declares he will fight alongside them, though he admits it will hardly make a difference. Then something strange happens: Buu sits down and falls asleep. Piccolo is baffled by the behavior, but moments later all four fighters sense an enormous ki approaching from the distance, signaling that the tide may be about to turn.
