Merus's Resolve

Manga ChapterCh. 63

Merus enters the fray not to defeat Moro but to finish Goku's training. Using his staff and angelic agility, he buys time while Dende heals the fallen fighters. When Goku arrives and fails in Ultra Instinct Sign, Merus makes his choice: he shatters the orbs powering Moro's absorption and accepts the divine consequence, fading away with a final plea to protect the galaxy.

Buying Time

Jaco asks Merus what took so long. The agent explains he has come to finish Goku's Ultra Instinct training. Moro realizes the fallen Z Fighters have vanished; Merus confirms he moved them somewhere safe. Moro dispels the barrier. Knowing he must stall for Dende to heal the wounded, Merus attacks with a combat pole, forcing even the powered-up Moro onto the defensive. Moro notes he can no longer sense Merus' energy and asks if he is some kind of deity. Merus offers no answer.

Dende's Healing and Goku's Failure

Dende tends to the critically injured fighters. Beerus and Whis arrive overhead, then leave for food without concern. Dende closes the wound in Goku's chest. Learning that Merus is fighting alone, Goku recalls the rule: any Angel who fights for real will be erased. He rushes to the battlefield, transforms into Ultra Instinct Sign, but cannot land a single clean hit. Moro mocks him.

The Angel's Sacrifice

Convinced that one final push will trigger Goku's mastery, Merus summons his Angel Attendant's Staff and resolves to destroy Moro's ability to steal power. Whis and Beerus sense it and turn back. Merus strikes the orbs in Moro's palms, shattering them. A golden halo forms around his neck as he begins to fade. With one final charge he punches the orb on Moro's forehead, destroying it. Moro's absorption power is gone. As Merus disintegrates, he explains that years with the Galactic Patrol taught him peace is worth fighting for. He tells Goku that true Ultra Instinct at his current strength will be unbeatable, and asks him to protect the galaxy. Jaco cries out. Whis quietly mourns his little brother. Goku, grief-stricken and furious, begins summoning strength he has never tapped before.
