A flashback to forty years ago reveals the full story of the Saiyan invasion of Planet Cereal. Bardock defies his orders and spares the young Granolah and his mother Muezli, escorting them to the last surviving Namekian. When the Heeters discover the survivors, Elec murders Muezli, and Bardock fights to protect the others. In the present, Goku learns the identity of his father for the first time.
Forty years ago, the Cerealians and Namekians of Planet Cereal lived as neighbors until the Saiyans arrived with the Frieza Force and laid waste to everything. The Cerealians destroyed their own moon, forcing the Great Apes back to base form, but the Saiyans proved powerful enough to exterminate them regardless. Bardock enters a building where the young Granolah hides with his mother Muezli. She fires a warning blast. His comrade Leek calls from outside, saying the mission is complete. Bardock tells Leek to go ahead, concealing the survivors. Thinking of his own son Kakarot, he lets them live and detects one more survivor in the mountains.
Bardock brings the pair to Monaito, the last Namekian, who attacks on sight but is stopped easily. He relaxes upon seeing the Cerealians. Muezli asks for shelter, and Monaito takes them in. Bardock warns them to stay hidden because Frieza is coming. He says he saved them because he felt like it. In the present, Granolah struggles to accept a Saiyan spared his life. Monaito notes Goku's resemblance to Bardock. Vegeta confirms Bardock was Goku's father. Granolah asks how his mother died, and Monaito answers bitterly.
A second flashback shows Bardock and Monaito overhearing the Heeters plan to swindle the Sugarians and overthrow Frieza. The infant Granolah wakes and screams, alerting the Heeters. Monaito knocks the child out while Bardock disguises himself. Elec draws a Ray Gun and shoots Muezli through the heart, then orders Bardock to kill the child. Bardock attacks, but Gas blocks the blast. Using the smoke as cover, Bardock escapes with Monaito and the infant. In the present, Gas reveals he has waited forty years for revenge against the Saiyans.
