With Goku and Vegeta training on Beerus's planet after Black Frieza's debut, the story shifts to Earth where teenage Trunks and Goten fight crime as Saiyaman X-1 and X-2. Malfunctioning Helper Bots plague West City, and Trunks traces the problem to a mansion where Dr. Gero's Alpha Series androids are reprogramming robots. He recovers a data disc, drawing the attention of Dr. Hedo.
Goku and Vegeta train on Beerus's planet, aware of how far behind Frieza they have fallen. On Earth, Trunks and Goten are teenagers who moonlight as masked heroes Saiyaman X-1 and Saiyaman X-2. After stopping robbers in Mosquito Town, Trunks asks Pilaf to build transformation watches modeled on Gohan's old design. Heading home in costume, Trunks runs into his grandparents Dr. Brief and Pansy with their pet dinosaur. He flees to protect his identity, but the couple then witnesses malfunctioning Helper Bots charging through the streets and a zombie.
At Blue Hal High School, Trunks arrives late. His friends Rulah, Skale, and Kompas dare him to investigate rumored ghosts in a mansion on Butterfly Mountain. Trunks declines, secretly unnerved by anything supernatural. After school, he and Goten play games at Capsule Corporation. Trunks wants to ask Mai to a movie, but she is busy repairing Helper Bots. Shu mentions strange figures tampering with the bots at night. Trunks decides catching the saboteurs will free up Mai's schedule and tells Goten about their new mission.
That night, Trunks encounters an Alpha Series android and bolts, smashing his watch. They trail a malfunctioning bot to a mansion and spot Alpha Series units reprogramming Helper Bots inside. When an android threatens Trunks's friends outside, he borrows Goten's watch, transforms, and fights the intruders. The watch malfunctions mid-fight and reveals his face, so Goten kills the lights and removes their friends. Trunks goes Super Saiyan, drops Alpha 12 with one punch, and recovers a data disc made by Dr. Gero. On the way out they meet Krillin investigating stolen corpses. Dr. Hedo later returns, finds his androids destroyed and his disc gone, and learns the culprit attends Blue Hal High School.
