In this prequel chapter, Trunks witnesses the TV hero Clean God in action at a museum field trip and learns why real heroes wear masks. The experience inspires him and Goten to design costumes and adopt the names Saiyaman X-1 and X-2. Gohan is revealed to have secretly played Clean God for a movie shoot, channeling his Great Saiyaman instincts one more time.
Goten and Trunks watch Clean God on TV, where the hero defeats Dirty Mad and his pollution army. A trailer for a live-action movie follows. The next day, Trunks's class visits a museum honoring Earth's heroes. Statues include Master Mutaito and an unfinished Goku sculpture with a question mark for a face, since the Saiyan never sought recognition. Trunks spots a Great Saiyaman exhibit while classmates cluster around Mr. Satan's statue. At lunch, friends debate why heroes hide their identities, then learn the Clean God movie is filming nearby.
During filming, fugitives steal cosplay outfits to blend into the crowd. Police halt production and the audience exposes them. One thief grabs Trunks as a hostage but is knocked out. As Trunks moves to chase the others, Clean God stops him, warning that using powers publicly would reveal his identity. The hero handles the criminals himself.
The last thief grabs the guide at gunpoint. Clean God flicks the weapon away and drops him with a Spinning Clean Chop, telling Trunks that heroes wear masks to protect the people they love. The thief threatens revenge but is launched into a burst fire hydrant by a Leaping Clean Uppercut. Trunks tosses the hero his Golden Deck Brush, and Clean God finishes things with Ultimate Aqua Wash.
After school, Goten finds Trunks playing the Clean God game. He asks if they should become superheroes. Trunks agrees instantly, pulls out costume sketches, and they settle on a classic design with Trunks's suit featuring a scarf. Trunks adds an X for mystery, claims the number one spot, and assigns Goten number two.
At the Satan House, Clean God removes his helmet to reveal Gohan, annoyed at filling in for a sick student. Videl mentions the museum incident and Gohan admits he stopped Trunks from fighting to protect his social life. Days later, two figures leap from a billboard that stopped a biker gang heading toward kindergartners and announce themselves as Saiyaman X-1 and Saiyaman X-2.
