Kraken

Race

Immense and powerful Demon Beasts native to the oceans of the Second Demon World, introduced in Dragon Ball Daima. Kraken detect anything flying close to the water's surface and rise up to constrict and consume whatever creature they catch. They appear to coexist peacefully with certain guardian entities like Tamagami Number Two.

Terrors of the Demon Sea

Kraken are colossal Demon Beasts that dwell in the oceans of the Second Demon World, one of the deepest layers of the Demon Realm explored in Dragon Ball Daima. True to their name, which echoes the legendary sea monsters of Scandinavian folklore, these creatures are built for aquatic ambush predation on an enormous scale. Their bodies are immense, dwarfing most other beings encountered in the Demon Realm.

They are carnivorous predators that detect movement above the ocean's surface. Anything flying too close to the water will trigger their hunting response, causing them to surge upward from the depths with tentacles or limbs capable of constricting and dragging prey beneath the waves. Despite their fearsome nature, Kraken appear to maintain a non-aggressive relationship with Tamagami Number Two, one of the guardian entities of the Second Demon World.

Navigating Demon Waters

During the events of the Daima Saga, the Kraken posed a significant navigational hazard for anyone attempting to cross the Second Demon World's vast oceans. Goku and his companions encountered these creatures during their journey through the Demon Realm, where the Kraken's territorial behavior made aerial travel across the open water an extremely dangerous proposition.

The Kraken's existence within the Demon Realm's ecosystem speaks to the hostile nature of this dimension. While the mortal world contains its share of dangerous creatures, the Demon Realm's fauna operates on an entirely different scale of lethality. The Kraken represent one of many environmental threats that make the Demon Realm inhospitable to all but the most powerful travelers.

Daima's Bestiary

The Kraken are part of Dragon Ball Daima's significant expansion of the Demon Realm's ecology. Alongside other Demon Beasts and the Tamagami guardian creatures, the Kraken help establish the Second Demon World as a fully realized environment rather than a simple backdrop for combat. Their presence forces characters to navigate the terrain strategically rather than simply flying from point to point.

As one of the franchise's most recent additions to its creature roster, the Kraken demonstrate that even decades into Dragon Ball's run, the series continues to draw inspiration from real-world mythology. The name itself is borrowed directly from Norse legend, fitting neatly into a universe that has always blended mythological concepts from cultures around the world into its own unique cosmology.
