Majin (Buu's Subspecies)

Race

The Majin subspecies descended from Majin Buu is a race of elastic, candy-colored beings defined by their regenerative abilities and shape-shifting biology. Born from fragments of the original Buu, these creatures come in a range of body types and temperaments but share a common rubbery physiology and immense latent power.

Made of Something Stranger Than Flesh

The Majin subspecies traces its origin to a single being: the original Majin Buu, a creature of pure magical energy conjured into existence by the dark wizard Bibidi millions of years before the events of Dragon Ball Z. Buu was not born in any conventional sense. He was summoned, a living weapon designed to destroy, and his body reflected that alien origin. Pink, rubbery, and virtually indestructible, Buu could regenerate from almost any injury, reshape his body at will, and absorb other beings to increase his power.

The Majin subspecies that descended from Buu inherited many of these traits. Their bodies are composed of a soft, elastic material that can stretch, inflate, detach, and reconstitute. They lack conventional internal organs in the traditional sense, which makes them extraordinarily difficult to kill. A Majin can lose limbs, be blown to pieces, or have holes punched through their torso, and their body will simply flow back together like putty.

Colors and Variations

While the original Buu was pink, the Majin subspecies exhibits a range of skin colors including pink, yellow, blue, purple, and green. Body types vary significantly as well, from slim and athletic to rotund and heavyset. This variety is particularly visible in the Dragon Ball Online and Xenoverse timelines, where Buu's descendants have formed their own civilization.

From One Buu, a Whole People

The story of how a single creature became the progenitor of an entire race is one of the strangest chapters in Dragon Ball lore. After being reformed by Mr. Satan's friendship during the Buu Saga, the good Majin Buu settled into life on Earth. He lived with Mr. Satan, ate enormous quantities of food, and generally enjoyed a peaceful existence.

According to Dragon Ball Online, Buu eventually read a book called "Bob and Margaret" and became fascinated by the concept of romantic love. Longing for a companion, he used his fission ability to split off a piece of himself, creating a female Majin named Miss Buu. Together, the two began producing offspring by tearing off pieces of their own bodies, which would then develop into new, independent Majin beings. Over the generations, these offspring reproduced in similar fashion, eventually forming the Majin race as a distinct population on Earth.

The Age 1000 Civilization

By the timeline of Dragon Ball Online, set around Age 1000, the Majin had become a recognized species living alongside humans and Namekians on Earth. They built their own communities, developed their own culture, and some trained as warriors. Players in Dragon Ball Online and the Xenoverse games could create Majin characters and experience life as a member of this relatively young race.

Sweet Tooth and Stretchy Fists

The Majin subspecies inherited more than just Buu's biology. They also carry forward many of his personality traits, most notably an insatiable appetite. Majin characters are frequently depicted as food-obsessed, cheerful, and somewhat naive, echoing the original Good Buu's childlike demeanor. This is not universal, as some Majin lean toward more serious or aggressive personalities, but the fondness for sweets and snacks appears to be genuinely biological.

In combat, Majin fighters utilize their unique physiology to devastating effect. They can stretch their limbs to strike from unexpected angles, inflate their bodies to absorb impact, and regenerate from wounds that would be fatal to other species. Some Majin retain access to Buu's signature techniques, including the ability to turn opponents into candy or chocolate with a beam from their head tentacle.

Notable Members

Beyond the original Good Buu himself, notable members of the Majin subspecies include the various Buu forms encountered throughout Dragon Ball Z: Super Buu, Kid Buu, and the absorbed versions. In the extended universe, Majin characters appear as Time Patrollers in the Xenoverse series, where they serve as one of the five playable races. The female Majin design, slimmer and more humanoid than the male body type, has become particularly popular among players.
