A state that grants mortal fighters god-like traits and power, achieved through training toward the God of Destruction role or through natural possession of godly ki such as the Super Saiyan God state.
Aura of a God is a power state that exists primarily in the Dragon Ball Super manga continuity, granting mortal fighters access to god-like traits and combat power without requiring a full visual transformation. It represents the activation of godly ki within a fighter who has been trained or exposed to divine-level energy, and it functions as a bridge between mortal combat power and the overwhelming strength of the gods.
The state is most closely associated with Top, the leader of Universe 11's Pride Troopers and a candidate for the God of Destruction position. Through his training under Belmod, the Universe 11 God of Destruction, Top gained the ability to tap into godly ki and activate his Aura of a God. As Top himself observed, the Super Saiyan God state also possesses this same aura, suggesting that any fighter wielding genuine godly ki technically operates within this state to some degree.
When Top activates his godly ki through this state, his power increases to an entirely different level from what he normally displays. This enhancement allowed him to fight on par with Super Saiyan God Goku and even defeat him in his Perfected Super Saiyan Blue form, though this victory came with the caveat that Goku had reportedly dropped his guard or was not using his full power, depending on the translation.
During the Tournament of Power in the manga, the Aura of a God played a strategic role in Top's combat approach. He initially fought without fully activating this power, holding it in reserve as a tactical option. When Perfected Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta began overwhelming him in their confrontation, Top drew upon the full power of his Aura of a God that he had been keeping in reserve, regaining equal footing against the Saiyan prince.
This strategic deployment is notable because it demonstrates that the Aura of a God is not an all-or-nothing state. Top could modulate how much of this divine power he was channeling, fighting at reduced capacity when it was sufficient and escalating to full output when the situation demanded it. This level of control distinguishes it from more binary transformations like Super Saiyan, where the user is either in the form or out of it.
An important distinction exists between the manga and anime versions of these events. In the Dragon Ball Super anime, the Aura of a God state does not appear at all. Instead, Top accesses his divine power through the Destroyer Form, a full transformation that completely changes his appearance and grants him the destructive abilities of a God of Destruction. The manga's Aura of a God is a subtler, less visually dramatic alternative that achieves similar power levels through internal ki manipulation rather than external physical change.
