Super Saiyan God SS Evolved

Transformation

Vegeta's personal evolution beyond Super Saiyan Blue, achieved during the Tournament of Power through sheer willpower and his vow to fight for his family and universe. Where Goku pursued Ultra Instinct as his path forward from Blue, Vegeta carved his own route by pushing Blue itself to a higher level. The form is visually distinguished by its deeper, more saturated shade of blue and significantly greater power output.

Vegeta's Breakthrough

Throughout the Tournament of Power, Vegeta fought not just for survival but for a specific promise: to wish back Universe 6 and its Saiyans using the Super Dragon Balls. This emotional anchor, fighting for something beyond personal pride, gave Vegeta the resolve to push past Super Saiyan Blue's established limits. His breakthrough came during the battle against Jiren's overwhelming power, when Vegeta refused to fall despite being outmatched in his standard Blue form.

The transformation was accompanied by a declaration that he would not be outdone by Goku's Ultra Instinct breakthrough. Where Goku transcended conscious thought through instinctive movement, Vegeta doubled down on conscious willpower and raw determination. The two approaches represent fundamentally different philosophies, and SS Evolved is the product of Vegeta's chosen path.

The Moment of Transformation

Vegeta's evolution occurred during Episode 123 of Dragon Ball Super, in the heat of combat against Jiren. His standard Super Saiyan Blue was being systematically dismantled by Jiren's superior strength, and the situation appeared hopeless. Rather than seeking a technique-based solution like Ultra Instinct, Vegeta drew on his emotional bonds and his pride as a Saiyan prince to force his ki beyond what Blue should have been capable of producing.

The visual shift was immediate and dramatic. The light blue of standard SSB darkened to a rich, deep shade closer to navy or royal blue. The aura expanded and intensified, sparkling with energy particles that were absent from normal Blue. Vegeta's power jumped to a level that allowed him to hold his own against God of Destruction-tier opponents, a feat standard Blue could not accomplish.

Power and Positioning

SS Evolved occupies a distinct tier in the Dragon Ball Super power hierarchy. It is definitively stronger than standard Super Saiyan Blue but falls short of Goku's completed Ultra Instinct. This positioning makes it the strongest conventional Super Saiyan transformation in the anime continuity, representing the peak of what can be achieved through willpower and emotional intensity within the Blue framework.

During the Tournament of Power, Evolved Vegeta was able to damage Top after his transformation into a God of Destruction candidate, a feat that demonstrated the form's viability against divine-tier opponents. However, against Jiren at full power, even SS Evolved was insufficient, requiring Vegeta to eventually exhaust himself and pass his remaining energy to Goku.

Manga vs. Anime

The manga handled Vegeta's beyond-Blue power-up differently, giving him the Perfected Super Saiyan Blue form instead of SS Evolved. Both forms serve the same narrative purpose of being Vegeta's personal evolution, but they achieve it through different mechanics. Perfected Blue emphasizes ki efficiency and control, while SS Evolved emphasizes willpower and raw output. The two interpretations reflect the broader differences between the manga and anime's treatment of the Tournament of Power arc.
