The Last Kick Standing

Goku's friends mourn his apparent death until Jackie Chun points to a pile of rubble. Goku emerges alive, naked, and confused. Jackie Chun reveals that he aimed his MAX Power Kamehameha at the moon itself, destroying it to reverse the Great Ape transformation rather than killing Goku directly. The announcer scolds Jackie Chun for obliterating Earth's moon, but the fight must go on.

Fist to Fist

Goku borrows Krillin's gi and the battle resumes, though both fighters are running on fumes. With their energy reserves spent on massive blasts, Jackie Chun declares they must settle the match with pure hand-to-hand combat. The two trade blows in a grueling exchange, each refusing to fall. Jackie Chun identifies Goku's weakness: his small body and short legs mean his kicks have less reach.

Simultaneous Strike

Both fighters agree to stake everything on one final attack. They leap into the air and deliver simultaneous flying kicks to each other's faces. Both crash to the arena floor, motionless. The announcer declares that the first fighter to stand and proclaim himself champion will win. Goku rises first, begins to say "I am the World Cham-pi..." and collapses mid-sentence. Because his declaration was incomplete, it does not count. Jackie Chun hauls himself up, takes a deep breath, and claims the title. His longer legs gave his kick the fraction of extra impact needed to outlast Goku.

A Champion by Inches

The finale is heartbreaking in the best way. Goku does everything right. He survives a moon-destroying blast, fights through total exhaustion, and even stands up first. But his body gives out one syllable short of victory. The rule that a fighter must complete their declaration adds a cruel technicality that makes the loss sting even more.

Dinner Bill Justice

After reverting to his Roshi persona, the old master takes everyone out for a celebratory dinner. Goku's appetite devours 57 full-course meals, costing 470,000 of the 500,000 Zeni prize. Roshi's fantasy of spending the money on women evaporates, replaced by a mountain of empty plates. It is the perfect comedic punctuation to a dramatic saga.

The Moon is Gone

Jackie Chun's destruction of the moon to stop the Great Ape transformation has lasting consequences for the Dragon Ball world. The tournament's outcome, decided by leg length rather than power or skill, reinforces Roshi's lesson that there is always room to grow. Goku's near-victory at age 12 establishes him as a generational talent who will inevitably surpass his master.
