Shigekiyo Yangu

Short and heavyset, Shigechi is a middle schooler with a boyish face. His head looks bald but is actually covered by a crown of stubby spikes, and his earlobes hang thick and drooping. Fine, high-set eyebrows sit above youthful features, while his crooked teeth are missing one of the upper front incisors. His dark school uniform is customized with metal studs, arranged into a pair of pointed shapes across the chest that trail down toward a jagged edge along the bottom of the jacket.

At first glance Shigechi seems slow and simple, a boy who can picture no better use for his power than scooping up dropped coins. The reality proves far sharper. He shows striking invention, pouring alcohol straight into a victim's blood for instant drunkenness, pinpointing the exact nerve that would kill a target, and rigging Harvest into a rolling conveyor that outpaces his friends and scales walls with ease. Socially, though, he is clumsy and starved for company, thrilled to call Josuke and Okuyasu friends and quick to split his takings with them.

That warmer side wars constantly with a streak of greed. When the three of them land a five million yen lottery windfall, he cannot stomach sharing it and snatches the ticket, threatening their lives if they draw near. Even after they patch things up he guards his money jealously, willing to lend but never simply give, and he turns openly hostile when he suspects someone has taken his lunch. A vein of arrogance runs through him too, boasting that Harvest is unbeatable, a cocksure blind spot he carries straight into his fatal clash with Kira. Yet loyalty anchors him: he keeps a photo of his mother close, refuses to sell out his friends even when his parents are threatened, and spends his dying thoughts on Josuke and Okuyasu.

Represented by a teeming swarm of tiny figures, Harvest wields enormous power through sheer numbers, combing an area to locate or retrieve whatever Shigechi wants and mauling opponents with alarming speed. The little men floored Josuke and Okuyasu within minutes and dropped Kira in seconds, and in both cases could have killed by opening a blood vessel, held back only by his reluctance to take a life. Born in the mid 1980s, Shigechi grew up ordinarily in Morioh, nicknamed by his parents and given a pet turtle called Gonta. Early in 1999 an Arrow fired by Keicho Nijimura pierced him and awakened Harvest, which he soon set to gathering stray coins around town.

A second-year at Budogaoka middle school, he first crosses paths with the heroes when Josuke, wary of an enemy Stand, tails the little figures during one of his collecting runs. The pair write him off as a fool, especially after he cheerfully offers to share the small fortune he has amassed, but the goodwill collapses when he takes offense at the insult and turns on them. The chase that follows shows off Harvest's swarm tactics and his readiness to fight dirty, injecting booze into their veins, until he is finally pinned and admits that all three earned an equal cut. From there they become schoolmates and friends.

His end comes through a grim accident. Shigechi unknowingly trades lunches with a severed hand belonging to one of Yoshikage Kira's victims, and Kira trails him to recover the grisly keepsake. Certain the stranger has stolen his meal, Shigechi confronts Kira and uses Harvest to seize the bag, recoiling in horror at the human hand inside. When one of the figures grabs a coin from Kira's fingers, Killer Queen detonates it and wounds him badly. Slipping away through stealth and camouflage, he fights his way toward Josuke and Okuyasu, hoping Crazy Diamond can mend him, only to reach a door whose knob Killer Queen has already primed; the blast kills him just short of safety. He manages to leave behind a button torn from Kira's coat, and Reimi Sugimoto watches his soul rise and warns the others. His quiet, sudden death becomes the spark that drives Josuke and his friends to hunt Kira down.
