Todoroki vs. Bakugo

Katsuki kicks in the wrong waiting room door, discovers the error, and stays anyway, provoked by Shoto's refusal to react. He blasts the table, demands a real fight, and hears that Izuku said the same thing. Shoto calls Izuku foolish for helping instead of winning and asks whether he was always like that; the question detonates Katsuki, who overturns the table and orders him to drop the family drama and bring his flames, because the whole stadium should watch Shoto lose at full strength.

The final opens with a tighter, deliberate version of the ice that buried Hanta Sero, and Katsuki simply tunnels through it on explosions. He mocks the aim, evades a counter mid air, seizes Shoto's left side and throws him. Shoto surfs an ice wave back into bounds, catches Katsuki's forearm on the next pass, and then, with the fire hand already gripping him, chooses to throw rather than burn. Katsuki takes it as an insult. Aizawa observes from the booth that Katsuki has only sharpened since the tournament began, while Shoto has lost something since fighting Izuku.

Internally, Shoto apologizes: he still does not know what the left side means to him. Then Izuku is shouting from the stands again, and the flames come up. Katsuki, delighted, winds up Howitzer Impact. At the last instant Shoto thinks of his parents, snuffs the fire, and takes the blast completely open. Katsuki does not celebrate. He stands over an unconscious boy demanding he get up and use everything, because a win like this is worth nothing, until Midnight puts him to sleep with her Quirk and declares him first year champion.

The ceremony is a farce. Katsuki is restrained on the podium and still furious. Fumikage shares third with Tenya, absent at his brother's bedside, and is told to stop leaning so hard on Dark Shadow. Shoto takes silver and admits to All Might that Izuku opened his eyes but his path remains clouded, adding that he now understands the interest in him. Katsuki refuses gold outright, so All Might jams it into his mouth.

Aizawa gives Class 1-A two days off and warns of draft forms on return. Tenya reaches Hosu General to find Tensei wrecked and apologizing for having been a poor example to him. Shoto, over his sister's objection, goes to the psychiatric ward he has avoided his whole life, believing his face could only hurt his mother, and resolves to talk everything through and get her out. Ochaco comes home to a celebration, Izuku learns over breakfast that his mother passed out seven times watching the Cavalry Battle, and Katsuki snarls at his own oral bacteria over the bathroom sink.

Katsuki Bakugo takes the first year championship on a Howitzer Impact, but only because Shoto extinguishes his flames at the last moment and takes the blast undefended. Katsuki rejects the victory as meaningless and has to be knocked out and restrained.

The awards are distributed by All Might, with Fumikage and Tenya sharing bronze, Shoto taking silver, and Katsuki refusing gold until it is forced on him. Shoto tells All Might his path is still clouded.

Tenya finds Tensei severely injured at Hosu General Hospital. Shoto visits Rei Todoroki in the psychiatric ward for the first time, resolving to free her.

The twenty-fifth episode and the twelfth of season two, closing the U.A. Sports Festival arc by adapting the back of Chapter 42 plus Chapters 43 and 44. It aired June 17, 2017 in Japan and November 3, 2018 in the United States. Howitzer Impact debuts here.

Tenya's arrival at Hosu General and Shoto's trip to the hospital are both lengthened relative to the manga.

New material includes Katsuki's thoughts as he walks from the waiting room to the ring, shots of the students and crowd beforehand, nearly every reaction Endeavor gives, Katsuki attempting to break the ice before it engulfs him, commentary from Minoru, Tsuyu, Hanta and Denki during the fight, and additional Class 1-B students at the awards ceremony.
