Blackback

A massive gorilla mink, Blackback has grey skin, small eyes, prominent canine fangs, and a mustache set beneath a black afro. His frame is broad and heavyset, and he wears a suit finished with a dark cravat.

Loyalty to his post defines him: any trespasser is met with an attack. He also dislikes anyone butting into a duel that is not their own, a point Jean Bart discovered after being body-slammed for trying to halt Roddy's clash. Fittingly for an ape, he has a great fondness for bananas.

Even by the standards of the naturally combative minks, Blackback is a powerful warrior. He can use Electro, and a full moon lets him take on his Sulong form. His raw strength is considerable: while still nursing serious wounds he lifted the enormous Jean Bart with a single hand and drove him into the ground, leaving the Heart Pirates shocked. Because he counted among Zou's mightiest fighters, Jack later marked him out for torture.

During the timeskip the Beasts Pirates, headed by Jack, stormed Zou searching for Raizo, and Blackback stood with his fellow Guardians through a battle that ran five days. On the last day a frustrated Jack unleashed the Koro gas brewed by Caesar Clown, leaving the minks poisoned and badly weakened. As one of their strongest, Blackback was strung up and interrogated about Raizo, yet he insisted he knew nothing of the ninja.

Word of Doflamingo's defeat prompted Jack to abandon Zou the next day. Sanji and his companions soon arrived, dispelling the poison and mending the minks' injuries. When Bege carried Sanji off, Blackback undid the chains binding Brook, and he and Roddy later apologized to Luffy for their earlier assault. Moved by Law's worry that the island would suffer if the pirates lingered, Blackback joined an all-night celebration, then helped greet the visiting samurai and confirm that Raizo was safe on Zou. He fell into a panic when Zunesha's cries shook the land, settling down only after Momonosuke had the elephant sink Jack's returning fleet. He wanted a place on the team going to retrieve Sanji, yet Nekomamushi instructed him to remain on Zou.

The Guardians afterward escorted Nekomamushi to Sphinx for a meeting with Marco, waiting at the shore while the two spoke. Alongside Marco and Izou, they arrived in Wano just as the Fire Festival was underway. Once inside Onigashima the minks gathered atop the Skull Dome, and when the full moon appeared they shifted into Sulong, with Blackback and Roddy urging Nekomamushi to concentrate on Kaidou. Jack then felled him and the others with a sweep of his trunk, and he later left the roof on Inuarashi's orders. After Luffy's defeat was announced he grew disheartened, but as flames closed in he refused to be beaten by fire and questioned who could have started the blaze, only for a torrent of water to crash over the minks. A week on from the fall of Kaidou and Big Mom, he took part in the Flower Capital's celebrations among his companions.
