Funkfreed

In his dormant state Funkfreed looks like a large, menacing cutlass slung across Spandam's shoulder, betraying his animal nature only through a pair of tusks worked into the guard and a tail-like tassel hanging off the pommel. Fully changed, he becomes a mild, friendly elephant standing a head or two above Spandam, much of his frame wrapped in an ornate leather harness with headgear echoing his master's mask, his hide a plain stone gray. In the intermediate hybrid shape his smaller head and torso rise snakelike from the hilt while the blade flows into his trunk.

Funkfreed is a calm and loyal creature, arguably Spandam's only true friend. He turns affectionate during quiet moments and obedient in a fight, yet he is no brave warrior and gives up readily the instant he is genuinely threatened.

Powered by the Zou Zou no Mi, Funkfreed possesses every standard trait of a Zoan Devil Fruit, shifting between a sword-elephant hybrid and a full elephant on Spandam's word. The fruit lends him an elephant's bulk and power, a steel blade's edge and toughness, and a thinking mind able to play the two forms off each other, with the flexible hybrid shape trained to ram foes in cramped spaces without killing them. Because Spandam can barely use a sword, however, Funkfreed's real value lies in ambush, since his stomach for open combat and his courage both run thin.
