Kunyun

Towering above the typical giant, Kunyun nonetheless keeps a lean build and a face that reads as broadly human. Fangs resembling a snake's break up an otherwise even row of teeth, and a long fall of hair reaches her waist beneath a set of horns. Her outfit pairs goggles and a helmet with a dark two-piece, gloves, and elbow protection, while a scarf loops at her throat. The character for nine marks the left of her top, and the same figure seems inked onto her left arm.

What little the series reveals of her comes through her voice. Each of the Numbers owns a signature manner of laughing tied to their assigned digit, and hers, a string of Kunyunyu Kunyu sounds, riffs directly on her own name and the number nine she represents.

Her origins trace to a Punk Hazard project carried out more than two decades earlier, an effort to revive the ancient giants that ultimately did not succeed. Kaidou took in the failed subjects, settling them on Onigashima and folding them into his crew under the banner of the Numbers. With the Fire Festival approaching, she and the others traveled to Onigashima through Hakumai alongside Scratchmen Apoo, then joined the Golden Kagura celebration on the day itself. During the assault on the island, Kunyun stood with Nure-Onna and Tenjo-Sagari against Nico Robin and Brook. Black Maria's illusion mist made Robin appear to her as Jaguar D. Saul, but Robin only feigned belief before catching the trio off guard with an attack. After Brook raised an ice barrier and Black Maria fell to Robin behind it, the musician finished off Kunyun and the rest of Maria's subordinates with a sweeping strike.
