Yama

Heavyset and crowned with a triple chin, Yama carries a rounded frame topped by long, wavy black hair and tanned skin. Shadows hang under his eyes above a pair of thick lips. His wardrobe consists of a white toga lined with black vertical stripes, three running down each side, layered beneath an orange sash strung with cord and trimmed in red and darker orange stripes. Gold bracelets ring both wrists, and like the rest of the Birkans, wings extend from his back.

Devotion to Enel borders on the fanatical for Yama, who scolded Shura, Ohm, and Gedatsu merely for brawling in their master's presence. In a fight he turns savage, and his disregard for everything around him showed plainly when he reduced the ancient ruins of Shandora to rubble while chasing Nico Robin. He is also given to barking odd exclamations such as Baa! and Meriya! during combat.

Despite his bulk, Yama moves with surprising speed, agility, and acrobatic skill, and his short limbs pack real power. He once booted an iron ball straight back at Genbo after it was fired from a bazooka, and he smashed through Shandora's stonework without effort. Alongside crushing and cutting tactics, he layers punches, kicks, and full body slams with flips, his sheer mass amplifying every hit. His signature attacks all bear the word Mountain: Stomach Mountain is a devastating body slam, Punch Mountain a heavy straight punch, and Drop Mountain a leaping, spinning drop kick. He carries the Ten-Fold Axe, a sash mounted with ten Axe Dials that adds slicing force to his belly drops.

After Enel razed Birka, he and his forces descended on Skypiea, overpowering Gan Fall, his Divine Squad, and the Shandia before claiming the Upper Yard. Within God's Shrine, Yama stood beside Enel's throne and rebuked the priests for squabbling, then led the Divine Soldiers against the invading Shandia and the Straw Hats. In the Survival Game he faced Genbo, crushing the warrior by deflecting his own cannonball back at him and finishing with a stab from the Ten-Fold Axe.

Wandering the forest afterward, he came upon Robin examining Shandora's ruins and attacked her, oblivious or indifferent to the destruction he was causing. She fled to spare the site, but he wrecked much of it in pursuit. When she finally turned, she caught his kicking legs with thirty sprouted hands, slammed him into a tree, blinded him, and folded his own dial sash so its blades bit into him. A broken Yama begged forgiveness, claiming he now grasped the worth of history, but Robin dismissed his pleas, snapped his fingers, and used Cien Fleur: Delphinium to hurl him off a cliff before crushing him with Doce Fleur: Clutch. Once the conflict ended, Yama and the other priests, save Gedatsu, were exiled to Cloud Drifting.
