Sprinting upward through the third floor, the fugitives are clipped by the venom of Magellan's pursuing Hydra. Bentham warns the others to keep their eyes forward. When the crowd gains the second-floor stairway, Ivankov grieves for the ones who never made it, then he and Inazuma take their stand. Inazuma's Great Scissors shear the staircase to pieces, seemingly cutting the warden off from the floor above. Magellan brands the move suicidal, yet Ivankov answers with taunts and a Death Wink that melts away one of the dragon heads.

Fresh Hydra heads burst from Magellan's back, and Ivankov fires bursts of New Kama Kenpo energy in reply. Up ahead, Luffy frets that the warden has stopped chasing them, but Bentham explains that Ivankov stayed to hold him off. On the second floor the Jailer Beasts start cutting down prisoners until Buggy frees more inmates and Galdino arms them. Buggy's group reaches the first floor as Luffy's continues to climb. Below, Ivankov feigns agony from the poison, his thick mascara and laceless boots fooling the warden again and again into believing his attacks struck home.

His patience finally spent, Magellan moves to end it, but Ivankov retaliates with the Hair Removal Fist. Inazuma sees the warden ride Venom Road up to the second floor, having beaten Ivankov, and counters with a Keep Out that Magellan blocks. While fleeing the demon guards, Buggy crashes into Crocodile, a reunion that stuns both him and Galdino, all the more so once word arrives that Jinbe and Luffy have downed the demon beasts. After Bentham kicks the pair for calling the okama perverts and the fourth-floor inmates pour in, Magellan looses a fresh Hydra. The anime stretches the Ivankov and Magellan duel beyond the manga version.
