The Birth of Mom - The Day That Carmel Vanished

Sixty-three years earlier on Elbaf, Jorul swings his sword at the young Linlin, but the child snaps the blade with her arm and flips the giant over, gravely wounding him. As other giants move to subdue her, Carmel sends them for the stored semla and walks toward the flames consuming the Western Village. Drawing on her Devil Fruit, she breathes life into the fire and compresses it into a small sun she names Pandora, leaving the giants awestruck while a satisfied Linlin drifts off, her craving fed. Jorul demands payback, and Jarul readies himself to drive his blade into Linlin, yet Carmel steps between them and pleads for mercy. Told that Jorul will die from his wounds and his great age, she offers to take Linlin away from Elbaf, and Jarul grudgingly agrees despite Hajrudin's protests. The next morning, the orphans and Linlin together visit Jorul's grave, and strangely she retains no memory of his death, an incident that earns her the giants' enduring hatred.

Relocating to another island with the children, Carmel watches the giants raise a fresh Sheep's House. One day she says she is off for groceries but instead boards a government ship to meet with CP0. Rather than placing the children in foster homes as everyone believed, she is an Underworld trafficker who delivers them to Cipher Pol or the Marines as future soldiers, her earlier rescue of the Giant Warrior Pirates having been a calculated act. She lists Linlin at a steep price as a future weapon and resolves to retire once the deal closes, arranging a birthday for the girl before the handover. To celebrate Linlin turning six the following day, the children offer a croquembouche of semla, and she tears into it through tears of joy, even nibbling the table. When she reopens her eyes, Carmel, the orphans, and the table are gone, leaving only scraps and torn pieces of Carmel's clothing. In the present day, the wailing Big Mom remains held by this very riddle, desperate to discover where Carmel went.

Part of the Whole Cake Island Arc, debuting Pandora and Carmel's Soru Soru no Mi technique Geburtstag. The anime adds Hajrudin running to the fallen Jorul, Jarul thrusting his blade into the ground before ordering Carmel away, the children assembled at Jorul's grave, Carmel saying she is going shopping, her tucking money into a bag while vowing to sell the orphans along with Linlin, and Linlin briefly imagining the missing children. Both Pandora's creation and the birthday party are lengthened. The eyecatcher pairs Monkey D. Luffy and Roronoa Zoro.
