Summary

Inside the castle on Kuraigana Island, Perona sobs over a newspaper reporting Moria's death at Marineford, but its owner Mihawk tells her Moria was still breathing when the battle ended. Out in the surrounding woods, Zoro battles a pack of armored baboons called Humandrills. Mihawk appears and notes Zoro has barely left the castle grounds and wrecked the boat he was given. Zoro snaps that he will paddle on the wreckage if he must, since reaching Luffy is urgent. Mihawk explains the baboons learn by copying humans and picked up weapon use from a war fought there seven years earlier, then invites Zoro back, only to be refused.

On Weatheria, Nami is held captive for trying to rob the weather scientists. After reading the news and longing to rejoin Luffy, she pleads so movingly that the touched scientists free her, whereupon she grabs Haredas and her loot and bolts. On Karakuri Island, Franky breaks into Vegapunk's old laboratory hunting for an icebreaker ship. Marveling at the blueprints while marines and cyborg animals chase him, he mistakes a skull-marked button for a Jolly Roger and presses it, triggering a massive blast remembered worldwide as the Nightmare of Baldimore.

On Namakura Island, Brook is thanked by friends he emboldened with a song to fight off the Longarm Tribe, who had kidnapped a girl. He frees the three caged Longarms rather than let his allies stoop to using them as sideshow attractions, warning he will return and eat their hearts if they misbehave. The freed trio promptly bind Brook and haul him away to exhibit the walking skeleton for profit, prompting the islanders to attempt another summoning to save him.

Notes

The cover shows Akainu and Kizaru tending a small plant in a Japanese-style garden with an elephant bathing nearby, the first look at Akainu's full tattoo and his head without a cap. Franky's button blunder echoes Chopper once mistaking a poisonous mushroom for medicine due to a skull symbol.
