The Twin Destroyer of Universe 6

Champa holds dominion over Universe 6 as its God of Destruction, a role he has occupied for millions of years alongside his attendant and martial arts instructor, Vados. He shares the same species as his twin brother Beerus, though his physique tells a different story. Where Beerus remains lean and feline, Champa has grown considerably heavier over the eons, a fact that Vados never hesitates to point out with cheerful bluntness.

The sibling rivalry between Champa and Beerus is legendary among the divine hierarchy. Their clashes have the potential to destroy entire star systems, which is precisely why the two agreed long ago to settle their disputes through less catastrophic means, primarily food competitions. Champa is deeply envious of Universe 7's culinary offerings, particularly Earth's cuisine, since Universe 6's version of Earth was rendered lifeless by war. This jealousy over food became one of the driving forces behind the Tournament of Destroyers.

Despite his position as a god, Champa is remarkably petty and temperamental. He throws tantrums when things do not go his way, berates his fighters when they lose, and constantly tries to one-up Beerus in any way possible. His attire mirrors his brother's Egyptian-inspired design but features circular patterns on his collars and sashes rather than Beerus's diamond motifs. He wears golden bangles and an earring in his right ear, another visual distinction from his brother.

The Tournament of Destroyers

Champa's most significant contribution to the series is organizing the Tournament of Destroyers, a five-on-five competition between Universe 6 and Universe 7. The stakes were enormous: the Super Dragon Balls, planet-sized artifacts scattered across both universes, along with Earth itself. Champa wanted Universe 7's Earth so he could enjoy its food, putting together a team of fighters including Hit, Cabba, Frost, Botamo, and Magetta.

The tournament revealed both Champa's cunning and his flaws. He selected his fighters strategically, each one possessing unique abilities that would challenge Universe 7's combatants. Hit, his ace, turned out to be one of the most dangerous warriors in either universe, wielding time-manipulation techniques that even Goku struggled against. Yet Champa also showed poor sportsmanship throughout, threatening to destroy his own fighters when they lost and erupting in fury at every setback.

After Universe 7 won the tournament, Champa was furious, but the discovery of the Super Dragon Balls led to an unexpected outcome. Beerus used his wish to restore Universe 6's Earth and its human population, an act of kindness disguised under layers of sibling rivalry. Champa was visibly moved, though he would never openly admit gratitude to his brother.

The Tournament of Power and Beyond

When the Tournament of Power was announced, with the losing universes facing complete erasure by Zeno, Champa found himself in genuinely dire circumstances. Unlike the earlier tournament, failure here meant total annihilation of Universe 6 and everyone in it. He assembled a formidable team that included returning fighters like Hit and Cabba alongside newcomers such as Caulifla, Kale, and the Namekians Saonel and Pilina.

Throughout the tournament, Champa oscillated between his typical volatile behavior and moments of surprising depth. When Universe 6 was ultimately eliminated, Champa faced erasure with an unexpected degree of composure. In his final moments before being wiped from existence, he shared a brief exchange with Beerus that stripped away the usual bickering and revealed genuine brotherly affection beneath decades of rivalry. Beerus's quiet acknowledgment was one of the arc's most poignant moments.

Of course, Android 17's wish on the Super Dragon Balls restored all erased universes, bringing Champa and Universe 6 back into existence. Following the tournament, Champa continued his role as destroyer, appearing in the Broly film and maintaining his contentious but ultimately affectionate relationship with Beerus. His character demonstrates that even gods can be deeply flawed, driven by jealousy and pride, yet still capable of genuine connection when it truly matters.
