A Rivalry Cut Short

Within the Frieza Force hierarchy, Cui occupied a position of considerable prestige as an elite soldier whose power level once matched Vegeta's. The two had a longstanding rivalry, with Cui frequently taunting the Saiyan prince and reveling in opportunities to challenge his status. When Vegeta defected after the battle on Earth and headed for Namek to find the Dragon Balls for himself, Frieza sent Cui to intercept and eliminate him.

What Cui did not account for was the dramatic power increase Vegeta experienced after recovering from his injuries on Earth. The Saiyan concept of growing stronger after near-death experiences, known as a zenkai boost, had elevated Vegeta well beyond Cui's level. When the two clashed on Namek, the fight was brutally one-sided. Cui attempted to use deception, claiming that Frieza was behind Vegeta to distract him, but Vegeta saw through the trick immediately.

Vegeta destroyed Cui with almost contemptuous ease, and the moment served a narrative purpose beyond simply removing a minor antagonist. It was the first concrete demonstration of Vegeta's growth since leaving Earth and established the escalating power scale that would define the entire Namek Saga. Cui's quick defeat signaled to the audience that the stakes on Namek were dramatically higher than anything that had come before, and that even established warriors within Frieza's army were no longer safe from the evolving strength of the Saiyans.
