MaiFuture Mai is the alternate timeline counterpart of Mai, and the leader of Earth's Resistance against Goku Black. Once a member of the Pilaf Gang, she was wished young by the Dragon Balls and grew up in the apocalyptic future timeline. She is Future Trunks's closest companion and one of the tritagonists of the Future Trunks Saga in Dragon Ball Super.
In Future Trunks's devastated timeline, Future Mai leads the remnants of humanity in a guerrilla war against Goku Black. Despite having no superhuman abilities, she organizes supply raids, coordinates civilian evacuations, and personally engages Black's forces with conventional firearms and explosives. Her bravery and tactical skill keep the Resistance alive long enough for Trunks to seek help from the past.
Mai's relationship with Future Trunks is one of the emotional anchors of the arc. While Trunks bears the burden of being the only fighter capable of opposing Black, Mai provides the emotional support and strategic grounding that keep him from breaking under the pressure. She nearly dies on multiple occasions, including being shot while protecting civilians, which pushes Trunks to fight harder and eventually seek help from the past timeline.
After Fused Zamasu is defeated and Future Zeno erases the timeline, Mai is one of only three survivors alongside Trunks and their timeline's version of reality. They are sent to a new branching timeline created by Whis's intervention, where another version of Mai already exists. This bittersweet resolution gives Future Mai a second chance at life in a world that still has hope. Her story is a testament to the idea that ordinary courage, wielded by someone without god-like powers, can still make a meaningful difference in the face of cosmic-level threats.
