Unlike his future counterpart who grew up in an apocalyptic wasteland, the present-timeline Trunks was raised in luxury at Capsule Corporation. Despite this comfortable upbringing, he showed remarkable martial arts talent from an early age, achieving the Super Saiyan transformation as a young child, something that took his father decades of intense effort. Much of his early development came through his friendship with Goten, the younger son of Goku. The two boys were inseparable, constantly sparring and getting into mischief. The Buu Saga
Trunks and Goten's involvement in the battle against Majin Buu forced them to grow up quickly. After witnessing Vegeta's sacrifice against Buu, Trunks channeled his grief into training, preparing to face the monster alongside Goten through their fused form. As Gotenks, the two achieved Super Saiyan 3 and engaged Super Buu in an extended battle inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.
