Gogeta is the Fusion Dance result of Goku and Vegeta combining into a single warrior. Representing the absolute peak of Saiyan power, Gogeta possesses a level of strength that dwarfs virtually every other fighter in the franchise. Unlike his Potara counterpart Vegito, Gogeta tends to fight with ruthless efficiency, ending battles quickly rather than toying with opponents.
Gogeta first appeared in the film Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, where Goku and Vegeta fused in Other World to combat the demon Janemba. After a failed first attempt that produced the overweight Veku, the two Saiyans successfully performed the Fusion Dance and created Gogeta. In his Super Saiyan form, Gogeta dispatched Janemba with a single technique, the Stardust Breaker, demonstrating power so overwhelming that the battle was barely a fight at all.
Gogeta appeared again in Dragon Ball GT as a Super Saiyan 4 fusion, fighting against Omega Shenron during the Shadow Dragon Saga. This version of Gogeta was depicted as playful and cocky, choosing to humiliate Omega Shenron rather than finish him off quickly. The fusion timer expired before Gogeta could deliver the final blow, a consequence of the enormous energy drain that Super Saiyan 4 Fusion placed on the technique.
The character received his most significant canonical appearance in Dragon Ball Super: Broly. When the Legendary Super Saiyan Broly proved too powerful for either Goku or Vegeta to handle individually, they fused into Gogeta. Starting in base form and escalating through Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan Blue, Gogeta systematically overpowered Broly in a visually spectacular battle that ended only when Cheelai wished Broly away with the Dragon Balls before the finishing blow could land.
Gogeta's power is calculated as the multiplicative result of Goku and Vegeta's individual strengths, making him exponentially stronger than either fighter alone. His techniques include the Stardust Breaker (also known as Soul Punisher), a rainbow-hued energy sphere that purifies evil, and the Big Bang Kamehameha, which combines Vegeta's Big Bang Attack with Goku's signature wave.
Compared to Vegito, who is formed through the Potara earrings, Gogeta has a stricter time limit but tends to fight more seriously. While Vegito has historically been depicted as arrogant and prone to testing opponents, Gogeta typically aims to finish the fight as quickly as possible. Both fusions represent the theoretical ceiling of Saiyan power, and debate over which is stronger remains one of the franchise's most enduring fan discussions.
The 30-minute Fusion Dance time limit is Gogeta's primary weakness. In GT, this limitation caused the fusion to expire at a critical moment. The Broly film handled this more carefully, with Gogeta fighting efficiently enough to nearly end the battle within the allotted time. His brief appearances make each one feel momentous, as the fusion is treated as a last resort rather than a standard tactic.
