Tora, known as Toma in the original Japanese version, is a Saiyan warrior and a member of Team Bardock. He serves under the Frieza Force as part of the Saiyan Army and is Bardock's closest friend and most trusted comrade, playing a pivotal role in the events leading up to Planet Vegeta's destruction.
Tora was a mid-class Saiyan warrior who served alongside Bardock in a squad that operated under the Frieza Force, carrying out planetary conquests. Among the members of Team Bardock, which also included Fasha, Borgos, and Shugesh, Tora stood out as the most level-headed and perceptive. He shared a close bond with Bardock that went beyond typical Saiyan camaraderie, functioning as both a trusted battle companion and something approaching a genuine friend in a culture that did not particularly value sentimentality.
In the television special "Bardock: The Father of Goku," Tora and the rest of Team Bardock were sent to conquer Planet Meat on what appeared to be a routine mission. However, the assignment was a trap orchestrated by Frieza, who had grown wary of the Saiyan race's increasing power. Dodoria and his elite soldiers ambushed the team, killing Fasha, Borgos, and Shugesh before mortally wounding Tora.
Bardock arrived too late to save his comrades but found Tora still barely alive. In his final moments, Tora warned Bardock about Frieza's betrayal, revealing that the tyrant intended to destroy all the Saiyans. Bardock took Tora's blood-soaked armband and wore it as a headband, a symbolic gesture that transformed a personal loss into a rallying cry. This moment became one of the most iconic in Dragon Ball's supplementary material, with the blood-stained headband serving as a visual reminder of what Bardock was fighting for when he made his final stand against Frieza. Tora's death, more than any other, pushed Bardock from a loyal soldier into a desperate rebel.
