Grand Zeno, also known as the Omni-King and the King of All, is the supreme ruler of the entire multiverse and its most powerful being. Despite his childlike appearance and personality, he possesses the terrifying ability to erase anything from existence, including entire universes. He rules jointly with his future counterpart following the events of the Future Trunks Saga.
Zeno sits at the absolute top of the divine hierarchy in Dragon Ball. Above the Gods of Destruction, above the Supreme Kais, above the Angels, Zeno's authority is total and unquestioned. He resides in a palace at the center of all existence, attended by his Grand Minister and two guards. Every deity in the multiverse, no matter how powerful, trembles at the mention of his name. Even Beerus, the God of Destruction who terrifies the Z Fighters, prostrates himself in Zeno's presence.
What makes Zeno so unsettling is the contradiction between his power and his personality. He looks and behaves like a small child, speaking in simple sentences, getting excited about games, and making decisions based on whether something is "fun." He once erased six of the original eighteen universes because he was in a bad mood, reducing the multiverse to twelve. This combination of absolute power and childlike impulsiveness makes him the most dangerous entity in the franchise, not because he is evil, but because he lacks the emotional maturity to wield his abilities responsibly.
Zeno's relationship with Goku is one of the most unusual dynamics in the series. Goku, who has never respected authority or social hierarchy, treats Zeno as a friend rather than a supreme deity. He gives Zeno a nickname ("Zenny" in the English dub, "Zen-chan" in Japanese), plays games with him, and speaks to him casually. Rather than being offended, Zeno is delighted by Goku's friendliness, since everyone else in the multiverse is too terrified to interact with him as an equal.
This friendship directly leads to the Tournament of Power, the most consequential event in Dragon Ball Super. After Goku reminds Zeno about a multi-universe tournament he had once proposed, Zeno decides to hold it immediately, with the stakes being the erasure of the losing universes. The other gods are horrified, but Zeno treats the entire affair as entertainment. He watches the battles with childlike glee, erasing eliminated universes without hesitation or remorse.
After Universe 7 wins the tournament, the surviving wish on the Super Dragon Balls restores all the erased universes. Zeno reveals that he would have erased everything if the winner had made a selfish wish, confirming that the tournament was, in part, a test of character. His acceptance of the altruistic wish demonstrates that beneath his capriciousness, there may be a deeper purpose to his actions, though the series deliberately leaves this ambiguous. Zeno's presence in Dragon Ball Super redefines the scale of the franchise, transforming it from a story about planetary threats to one about the survival of reality itself.
