A Comedy of Competing Wishes

Goku sets out with the Dragon Radar to collect all seven Dragon Balls, determined to finally fulfill his long-overdue promise to revive King Kai. Meanwhile, Bulma discovers she needs a rare material from the Earth's core to complete her secret reconstruction of Future Trunks's time machine. She plots to use one of the Dragon Ball wishes to obtain it.

When Goku summons Shenron at Capsule Corporation, chaos erupts. Android 18, Master Roshi, Oolong, the Pilaf Gang, and even Goten and Trunks all show up demanding a wish. Shenron reveals that since only one wish was used previously, two wishes are available this time. The first wish goes to Gohan, who asks Shenron to heal Pan, whose Saiyan biology has made her resistant to conventional medicine. Everyone agrees to this without argument.

The second wish becomes a free-for-all. Bulma arrives and systematically eliminates each competitor. She convinces Android 18 that Krillin would prefer her presence at home over any material gift. She pays a group of women to lure Master Roshi away. She has Android 18 flick Oolong into the distance. She sends Goku to the Earth's core to retrieve her material as payment for letting him have the wish. But when Beerus and Whis arrive, they recognize the material as a time machine component and Beerus destroys both the material and Bulma's entire laboratory. With all the delays, Shenron fades away before Goku can make his wish, leaving King Kai furious once again.

Light Comedy with Hidden Stakes

This episode serves as a comedic cooldown after the intense Future Trunks Saga, but it carries real consequences. Beerus's destruction of the time machine firmly closes the door on casual time travel as a plot device. His enforcement of temporal law, after having inadvertently created a new timeline himself, demonstrates that the God of Destruction takes this prohibition seriously regardless of who is involved.

The running gag of King Kai's perpetual inability to be revived, stretching all the way back to the Cell Saga, reaches peak comedy here. Despite Goku's genuine intent, the sheer chaos of everyday life continues to derail what should be a simple wish. The episode also highlights Gohan's growth as a father, prioritizing Pan's health without hesitation.

Bridging the Sagas

Positioned as the final episode of the Future Trunks Saga, this installment transitions the series into its lighter filler arc. Bulma's scientific ambition mirrors her future counterpart's, showing that the drive to master time travel runs deep in her character across every timeline. The notebook left behind by Future Bulma serves as a touching reminder of the bonds forged across dimensions.

This is also the first time Android 18 actively pursues a Dragon Ball wish, a notable moment for a character who once terrorized the planet. Her desire to simply find the right gift for Krillin shows how far she has come.
