Korin Tower

After an exhausting climb, Goku finally reaches the summit of Korin Tower. The top level holds three mysterious pots: the first shows him a vision of Bulma cooking breakfast at Kame House, the second replays a memory of meeting Chi-Chi at a lake, and the third releases a giant red centipede that wraps around him. As the creature constricts him, Goku sees visions of his friends, his enemies, and even people he has not yet met, including Fortuneteller Baba and his Grandpa Gohan.

A voice announces these were visions of his past, present, and future, then invites Goku upstairs. There he finds not the fearsome god he expected, but a small white cat named Korin. Despite his unassuming appearance, Korin is over 800 years old and possesses the ability to read minds. He quickly determines that Goku's intentions are pure: he wants to defeat Mercenary Tao and use the Dragon Balls to revive Bora.

When Goku asks for the Sacred Water, Korin agrees he can have it, but only if he can take it by force. What follows is a relentless chase around the tower. Korin dodges every lunge, swipe, and leap with maddening ease, using his mind-reading to anticipate Goku's every move. The pursuit continues through the entire day as a storm brews outside. At Kame House, Master Roshi senses the disturbance above the clouds and demonstrates his own power by splitting the ocean with a finger beam. Korin then reveals that the only person to ever obtain the Sacred Water before was Master Roshi himself, and that it took him three years.

The reveal that Master Roshi spent three years chasing Korin for the Sacred Water reframes everything the audience knows about the old master. Roshi's strength, which has seemed almost limitless, was forged through the same grueling trial Goku now faces. The scene of Roshi splitting the ocean during the storm, demonstrating the power he gained from this training, adds tremendous weight to the challenge.

Visions Beyond Time

The three pots offer a fascinating sequence. The vision of Bulma at Kame House connects Goku to his friends, the memory of Chi-Chi hints at a relationship that will define his future, and the appearances of Fortuneteller Baba and Grandpa Gohan foreshadow the next major arc. These brief glimpses pack enormous narrative significance into a quiet, contemplative moment.

Korin's first appearance establishes him as one of Dragon Ball's most important mentors. His ability to read minds, his centuries of wisdom, and his connection to Master Roshi's training create a lineage of martial arts knowledge stretching back hundreds of years.
