The Demon King Revealed

Goku refuses to sit still after finding Krillin dead. Ignoring Master Roshi's orders, he grabs Bulma's Dragon Radar and tears off on the Flying Nimbus to hunt down the creature responsible. Meanwhile, back at the tournament grounds, Roshi and the others gather around Krillin's body and begin piecing together the identity of his killer.

Master Roshi recounts a horrifying chapter from his past. Long ago, a demon king named Piccolo terrorized the world alongside his monstrous offspring. Roshi and his training partner, Master Shen, were the only students of Master Mutaito to survive the onslaught. Even their master's power was not enough to defeat King Piccolo in direct combat. Mutaito disappeared in shame, only to return years later with a desperate technique: the Evil Containment Wave. He sealed King Piccolo inside an Electric Rice Cooker at the cost of his own life.

The story then reveals that Emperor Pilaf and his bumbling crew found the rice cooker and freed King Piccolo, hoping he would reward them with territory once he conquered the world. With knowledge of the Dragon Balls from Pilaf, King Piccolo now hunts martial artists to eliminate anyone capable of sealing him again. As Roshi finishes his grim tale, Goku spots Tambourine in the distance.

Critical Moments

Goku's grief-fueled departure sets the stage for his solo journey through the King Piccolo Saga. His refusal to wait for help establishes the reckless determination that defines this arc. Master Roshi's flashback reveals the full scope of the threat, showing how Piccolo's demon clan wiped out an entire generation of martial artists.

Emperor Pilaf's role as the one who freed King Piccolo connects the earliest villain of the series to its most dangerous one yet. The revelation that Piccolo wants the tournament roster to systematically eliminate fighters capable of sealing him raises the stakes beyond anything the group has faced before.
