Playground of the Dead

Goku faces down Frieza and Cell in Hell, unfazed by their threats despite his small stature. His power-up rattles King Yemma's palace and briefly startles both villains. The battle quickly turns playful as Goku rides Frieza's Death Saucer like a hoverboard and fashions a spike into a makeshift staff, swatting away every attack they throw at him.

Goku appears to destroy both enemies, but Cell regenerates and cheerfully informs him that the dead are immortal in Hell. Meanwhile on Earth, Majuub, Goten, and Trunks clear out waves of Saibamen, Gohan faces off against General Rilldo, and Vegeta dispatches Nappa with a single contemptuous blow.

Tricks of the Underworld

Cell blinds Goku with a Solar Flare and attempts to absorb him through his tail. Goku simply crawls back out, unimpressed. But Frieza springs a trap from behind, and together the two villains seal Goku inside an energy cage called Hell's Buster. They drag him to Hell's torture district, where an old woman operates a gauntlet of punishments.

Goku endures a boiling cauldron, a tickle chamber, a scalding sauna, and finally a strangling ice prison. Cell and Frieza arrive to gloat, revealing the ice will hold him for twenty years. On Earth, General Rilldo turns Gohan's arm to metal, and the two doctors arrive with Hell Fighter 17 ready for a real fight against Vegeta.

A Brother's Dark Call

Hell Fighter 17 contacts the original Android 17, demanding to know why he has not come to merge yet. Seventeen begins attacking civilians in the city, drawing the attention of his sister, Android 18. She confronts him, asking why he is suddenly destroying everything around him.

Rather than explain himself, 17 attempts to place 18 under his hypnotic control. Across the battlefield, Gohan struggles against General Rilldo, Vegeta contends with the android menace, and the remaining Z Fighters continue mopping up Saibamen. The episode closes with the question of whether 18 can resist her brother's influence.
