The Rose-Colored Terror

Upon arriving in the devastated future, Goku is immediately targeted by resistance fighters who mistake him for Goku Black. Future Trunks defuses the situation, and the soldiers lead the group to their underground headquarters in an abandoned subway station. There, Future Trunks reunites with Future Mai, who has been leading the survivors in his absence. She tearfully admits she could not protect everyone, but Goku reassures her that she has nothing to be ashamed of.

Vegeta contributes by producing capsules full of food and supplies that Bulma prepared, feeding the starving civilians. After this brief moment of warmth, the three Saiyans prepare for battle. Vegeta wins the right to fight first through rock-paper-scissors and tells Future Trunks to stay behind and protect the survivors. If things go wrong, Trunks and Mai should escape to the past using the Time Machine.

Vegeta confronts Goku Black as a Super Saiyan Blue and initially dominates the fight, pummeling him with a relentless barrage. But Goku Black is far stronger than his previous encounter with Goku suggested. After absorbing Vegeta's assault, he powers up into a new form: Super Saiyan Rose. The transformation is devastating. Goku Black stabs Vegeta clean through the chest with an energy blade, dropping him instantly. When Goku steps in as a Super Saiyan Blue, he fares no better, knocked to the ground in a single blow. Before Goku Black can finish them, Future Zamasu appears at his side, stunning the wounded Saiyans.

A Prince's Pride, Shattered

Vegeta's demand to fight alone reveals both his confidence and his emotional investment. He sees Goku Black as an insult, someone wearing his rival's face while desecrating a body Goku built through decades of battle. The initial success makes his defeat all the more brutal. Super Saiyan Rose is not merely a power boost; it represents complete mastery of Goku's stolen body filtered through divine ki. The pink hue distinguishes it from the mortal-born Blue, a visual statement that Goku Black considers himself above the Saiyans on every level.

Raising the Stakes

Episode 56 marks the first time the heroes face Goku Black at his true power, and the results are catastrophic. The introduction of Super Saiyan Rose establishes that Goku Black has been holding back in previous encounters. Future Zamasu's dramatic arrival at the episode's end transforms the conflict from a difficult fight into a seemingly impossible one. The resistance scenes also ground the stakes in human terms, showing exactly what the Saiyans are fighting to protect: ordinary people surviving against impossible odds.
