Goku begins training under King Kai on his high-gravity planet, struggling to catch the speedy monkey Bubbles while Piccolo pushes Gohan harder than ever in the wastelands below.
Goku's training on King Kai's Planet begins with a test of humor rather than strength. King Kai refuses to teach anyone who lacks a sense of comedy, forcing Goku to craft jokes that will make the eccentric master laugh. After several weak puns land surprisingly well, Goku earns his place as a student.
King Kai tracks the approaching Saiyans and delivers grim news: they will reach Earth in 158 days, and both are stronger than King Kai himself. Goku's first assignment is deceptively simple: catch Bubbles, King Kai's pet monkey, while battling the planet's gravity, which is ten times that of Earth. Goku removes his weighted clothing and begins the exhausting chase, only to collapse from hunger before making any progress.
After a meal, King Kai instructs Goku to put his weighted clothes back on, explaining that the Saiyans' incredible strength comes from growing up on a planet with identical gravity. On Earth, Piccolo trains Gohan by firelight, and the boy tells his mentor that he has become like family to him. Three weeks later, Goku finally catches Bubbles, and King Kai hints at a powerful technique called the Kaio-ken.
King Kai reveals the Saiyans are 158 days away and stronger than he is. Goku's first task is to catch Bubbles under ten-times-Earth gravity. The chase lasts three grueling weeks before Goku succeeds, proving he has fully adapted to the crushing environment.
Back on Earth, Piccolo and Gohan share a rare quiet moment around a campfire, where Gohan affectionately calls Piccolo his "big green uncle." The exchange hints at the deepening bond between the unlikely pair, even as their training grows more intense.
