Blood Ties and Broken Memories

The armored stranger wastes no time delivering a revelation that rocks Goku to his core. His name is Raditz, and he claims to be Goku's older brother. The two of them belong to the Saiyan race, a warrior species that conquers planets for profit. Goku was sent to Earth as an infant with orders to exterminate its population, but a childhood head injury erased his memories and his violent Saiyan instincts along with them.

Raditz explains that only four Saiyans survived the destruction of their homeworld, and he has come to recruit Goku for their next planetary conquest. When Goku flatly refuses to participate in the genocide of the planet he calls home, Raditz responds with swift brutality. He snatches the young Gohan and delivers an ultimatum: eliminate one hundred humans by the following day, or never see the boy again.

The kidnapping leaves Goku desperate and outmatched. Raditz's power far exceeds anything he has ever faced, and brute force alone will not be enough to rescue his son.

An Alliance Born of Necessity

In a twist that no one could have predicted, Piccolo appears before the stunned group at Kame House. Rather than seeking conflict with his old rival, Piccolo proposes a temporary alliance. He, too, recognizes the threat Raditz poses and understands that neither of them can defeat the Saiyan alone. Goku accepts without hesitation, and the two former enemies set off together to confront Raditz at his space pod's crash site.

When they arrive, the situation becomes even grimmer. Raditz casually informs them that the two remaining Saiyans in the universe are both significantly stronger than he is. The stakes of this single battle suddenly extend far beyond rescuing Gohan.

Rewriting History in Real Time

This episode adds a flashback of Goku and Piccolo's battle at the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, footage that never appeared in the original Dragon Ball Z. The addition helps Kai's audience understand the weight of their rivalry and why Piccolo's offer of partnership carries such dramatic significance.

Sharp-eyed viewers will notice that Vegeta's color palette has been corrected from the previous episode's flashback, where he appeared with an inaccurate color scheme. These small visual adjustments reflect Kai's commitment to consistency across its retelling.
