Gohan, Krillin, and Bulma arrive on Namek after thirty days in space, only to discover that the tyrant Frieza and his army have beaten them there. Vegeta, fully healed and hungry for the Dragon Balls himself, is also en route.
The journey to Namek is long but not idle. Inside the Namekian ship, Gohan and Krillin spend their travel time training through image sparring, a mental technique that allows them to simulate combat without physical contact. It is a small but meaningful detail that shows how seriously both fighters are taking the threat ahead. Bulma, meanwhile, monitors the ship's systems and tracks their progress toward Namek using her Dragon Radar.
Elsewhere in the galaxy, Vegeta has arrived at Planet Frieza 79, the staging base for Frieza's empire. Gravely wounded from his battle on Earth, the Saiyan Prince is placed in a medical pod that rapidly heals his injuries. During his recovery, a fellow soldier named Cui delivers alarming news: Frieza himself has already traveled to Namek, having learned about the Namekian Dragon Balls through the scouter transmissions from the battle on Earth. Vegeta, realizing that his dream of immortality through the Dragon Balls is now in direct competition with the most powerful being in the universe, immediately departs for Namek.
After thirty days of travel, Bulma, Krillin, and Gohan finally touch down on Namek's surface. The planet is hauntingly beautiful, with green skies and blue-green grass stretching in every direction. Bulma checks her Dragon Radar and notes that four of the seven Dragon Balls have already been gathered in one location. The assumption is that the Namekians have collected them. The truth is far worse.
Gohan senses powerful and unmistakably evil energy signatures on the planet, immediately contradicting Bulma's optimistic theory about friendly Namekians. Before they can investigate, Vegeta's space pod streaks overhead and crashes in the distance, followed shortly by a second pod carrying Cui. The realization hits hard: they are not the only ones who came to Namek for the Dragon Balls.
Vegeta is not thrilled either. Stepping out of his pod, he detects the energy signatures of Zarbon and Dodoria, two of Frieza's most powerful officers. The Saiyan Prince now faces a three-way contest for the Dragon Balls: his own ambition, Frieza's imperial army, and the Earthlings who just arrived. The game on Namek is already far more dangerous than anyone anticipated.
The introduction of Frieza redefines the scale of Dragon Ball's storytelling. Where the Saiyan Saga pitted Earth's fighters against two alien warriors, the Namek Saga introduces an entire galactic empire led by a being whose power dwarfs anything previously encountered. Frieza's name has been whispered since the very first episode, tied to the destruction of Planet Vegeta, and now he steps from background mythology into the spotlight.
The three-way conflict on Namek between Frieza's forces, Vegeta, and the Earthlings creates a dynamic that is far more complex than a simple hero-versus-villain structure. Alliances will shift, betrayals will unfold, and the Dragon Balls will change hands multiple times before the saga reaches its conclusion.
