Gohan struggles against Dabura, and Vegeta's frustration with Gohan's performance catches the Demon King's attention. Sensing the darkness in Vegeta's heart, Dabura and Babidi devise a plan to turn the Saiyan prince against his own allies using manipulation sorcery.
The battle between Gohan and Dabura rages on Stage 3, and while Gohan holds his own, he fails to press a decisive advantage. The Demon King fights with measured aggression, testing Gohan's limits without fully committing his own power. At one point, Dabura materializes a sword and swings it with lethal intent, forcing Gohan to dodge and counter in rapid succession. Gohan manages to shatter the blade, but the exchange highlights that this fight could go either way.
Watching from the sidelines, Vegeta grows increasingly agitated. In his assessment, Dabura is strong but not unbeatable, and Gohan should have ended the fight already. The Saiyan prince's irritation is rooted in something deeper than tactical analysis. He sees Gohan's hesitation as a reflection of softness, a failing that Vegeta would never tolerate in himself. His frustration boils visibly, and the dark energy radiating from his emotions does not go unnoticed.
Dabura, attuned to malice and negativity through his nature as the Demon King, senses Vegeta's inner turmoil with startling clarity. He abruptly disengages from Gohan and returns to Babidi with a new plan, one that does not require him to fight the Z Fighters at all.
Dabura proposes that Babidi use his Manipulation Sorcery on Vegeta. The spell targets the darkness already present in a person's heart and amplifies it, binding the victim to Babidi's will. For someone with a pure heart, the magic would find no foothold. But Vegeta's heart is far from pure. Years of pride, jealousy, and suppressed rage toward Goku have left cracks that Babidi's magic can exploit.
Babidi peers through his crystal ball and examines Vegeta as the Saiyan prince argues openly with Goku about Gohan's lackluster performance. The sorcerer confirms what Dabura suspected: Vegeta's heart harbors enough darkness to make the spell effective. With a cruel grin, Babidi begins the incantation, and dark energy surges toward Vegeta from across the dimensional barriers of the ship.
Vegeta's transformation under Babidi's spell is one of the most significant character moments in the entire Dragon Ball franchise. The Majin mark appears on his forehead, his power surges to new heights, and Babidi teleports the group back to the World Martial Arts Tournament grounds. But Vegeta does not obey Babidi's commands. Instead, he turns to face Goku, the rival who has haunted his every waking thought for years.
The episode ends with the chilling implication that Vegeta may have allowed the corruption to take hold willingly, trading his autonomy for the power boost he needed to finally surpass Goku. It is a decision born not of weakness but of a desperate, consuming pride that defines everything Vegeta is.
