Morning arrives with Pilaf defeated, the Dragon Balls scattered and a whole year to wait before they will wake again. The group recognizes that their adventure together is over, and each of them chooses a different road to follow until the wish stones call them back.
Dawn breaks over what is left of Pilaf's fortress. Goku wakes up with no memory of the previous night's rampage and immediately asks where his Power Pole has ended up. Yamcha points him toward the shattered castle, and the boy takes off happily to retrieve it, completely unbothered by the destruction around him. The others sit in the sand and quietly take stock of everything that has just happened to their borrowed little family.
Oolong is the first to say out loud what everyone already feels. With the seven Dragon Balls scattered across the world and dormant for a full year before they can be gathered again, there is no practical reason for the team to keep traveling together. Yamcha and Bulma admit that they no longer need a wish at all, since the trip has brought them close enough together that Yamcha has mostly gotten over his fear of pretty girls. The two of them decide to head to the city and make a life there side by side.
When Goku returns with the Power Pole slung across his shoulder, Yamcha and Bulma invite him to come along. He turns the offer down politely. He has his own plan in mind. He wants to find Master Roshi and ask the old man to train him into a proper martial artist. He also still wants his grandfather's Four-Star Ball back someday, and asks how he is supposed to track it down without Bulma's tech.
Bulma hands over the Dragon Radar and wishes him luck with the training. With quick goodbyes and a promise to meet again someday, Yamcha, Bulma, Puar and Oolong climb into Yamcha's plane and lift off toward the city. Goku hops onto the Flying Nimbus and speeds off in the opposite direction, musing quietly to himself that the world is full of all kinds of different people.
