Videl Learns to Fly

Manga ChapterCh. 424

Gohan begins teaching Videl and Goten the fundamentals of flight by explaining ki control. Videl, unfamiliar with ki entirely, proves to be a remarkably fast learner. Meanwhile in the Other World, Goku trains with massive weights under King Kai's supervision and terrifies the South Kai's champion with a casual Super Saiyan demonstration.

Ki Basics

Gohan begins the flying lesson by explaining that flight requires controlling one's ki. Videl has never heard of ki. To demonstrate, Goten fires a blast that obliterates a nearby boulder. Videl calls it a trick, but Gohan assures her it is real power. Deciding Goten is too far ahead, Gohan sends him off to play and focuses on Videl.

At lunch, Chi-Chi prepares a meal for all three. Videl says the food beats what her family's private chef makes. Chi-Chi is startled to learn about the chef and the fifty-room mansion. She then asks when Gohan plans to marry Videl, causing him to spit out his food. Afterward, Videl accesses her ki for the first time. Gohan praises her but explains she still needs consistent control before she can fly.

Heavy Training in the Other World

Goku trains with two-ton weighted pads while King Kai watches. The South Kai arrives, curious about the North's strongest fighter. He is stunned by the weights but brags about his own warrior, Papoye. King Kai invites him to enter Papoye in the World Martial Arts Tournament, and the South Kai accepts.

King Kai offers to increase the weights to ten tons. Goku hesitates until reminded he can use Super Saiyan. He transforms and punches and kicks as though wearing nothing. The South Kai quietly reconsiders entering Papoye and walks away. King Kai flashes a victory sign.

Progress and a Haircut

Videl develops enough control to hover. Goten has mastered flight entirely, zooming around freely. Videl announces she will return the next day despite Gohan insisting she can practice alone. Before leaving, Gohan suggests she cut her hair for practical combat reasons. Videl blushes, thinking he prefers short hair on girls. Gohan, oblivious, insists it is strategic. She snaps that her hair is her business and flies off. The next day she returns with it cut short, leaving Gohan confused.
