Machine Mutant

Race

Artificial beings invented by the Tuffles that combine fully mechanical construction with organic properties. Machine Mutants can reshape, absorb, and integrate metallic materials into their bodies. Created by Dr. Myuu (himself a Machine Mutant), they serve as the primary antagonist faction in Dragon Ball GT's Baby and Super 17 Sagas. Their most dangerous creation is Baby, the parasitic Tuffle organism.

Metal That Breathes

Machine Mutants are a race of artificial beings that blur the boundary between mechanical engineering and organic life. Though constructed entirely from metal and circuitry, they possess organic properties that allow them to mold, contort, and reshape their bodies like living creatures. They can absorb metallic and mechanical materials to augment themselves, restructure their physical forms at will, and fly with or without the use of ki.

Each humanoid Machine Mutant is identifiable by a distinctive feature in their eyes: two perpendicular lines crossing at the pupil, creating a crosshair-like pattern. This visual trademark makes them instantly recognizable among the many artificial beings in the Dragon Ball universe. Their diet, to the extent that they consume anything, consists of metal, which they can process and integrate into their bodies.

Tuffle Origins

Machine Mutants were originally invented by the Tuffles, the technologically advanced race that once shared Planet Plant with the Saiyans before being wiped out. While the Machine Mutants initially appear to be the creations of Dr. Myuu, a pivotal revelation in Dragon Ball GT exposes that Myuu himself is a Machine Mutant, created by Baby as part of an elaborate scheme to bring the parasitic Tuffle organism to full power. This twist reframes the entire Machine Mutant army as instruments of Tuffle revenge against the Saiyans.

The M-2 Empire and Baby's Revenge

Machine Mutants established their primary base of operations on Planet M-2, a mechanical world that served as Dr. Myuu's headquarters. From this planet, Myuu directed a military force that included some of the most powerful mechanical warriors in the franchise. General Rilldo, the commander of M-2's forces, possessed a power level that Goku compared favorably to Majin Buu, making him one of the strongest enemies encountered in the GT era.

The Sigma Force served as M-2's elite combat unit, while the cult-like worship of the Machine Mutant idol Luud demonstrated that these artificial beings could develop social structures mimicking organic civilizations. Mutchy, a whip-like Machine Mutant, controlled Luud's followers through a combination of deception and brute force. Even the diminutive Giru, who would become an ally to the heroes, began as a standard Machine Mutant reconnaissance unit before developing genuine emotions and loyalty.

Baby, the Machine Mutants' ultimate creation, was a parasitic organism engineered from Tuffle DNA combined with Machine Mutant technology. His ability to take over the bodies and minds of other beings represented the culmination of Tuffle scientific genius and their burning desire for vengeance against the Saiyans. Baby's possession of Vegeta and subsequent attempt to recreate the Tuffle homeworld formed the emotional core of Dragon Ball GT's most critically praised arc.

Evolution Beyond Programming

The Machine Mutant concept expanded significantly beyond its Dragon Ball GT origins. Hell Fighter 17, a Machine Mutant duplicate of Android 17, was created by Dr. Myuu and Dr. Gero in Hell. His resonance link with the original Android 17 formed the basis of the Super 17 Saga, demonstrating that Machine Mutants could interface with and control technology from entirely different creation methods.

In Super Dragon Ball Heroes, the Neo Machine Mutants Oren and Kamin represent an advanced evolution of the concept. Created by the Tuffles of Universe 6, these beings can produce Tuffle Parasites and possess other fighters, carrying forward Baby's parasitic legacy in a new form. Their ability to merge into Kamioren and battle at levels comparable to Super Saiyan Blue demonstrates that Machine Mutant technology continues to evolve across universes and timelines.

Notable Machine Mutants

The Machine Mutant roster includes Baby (the Tuffle parasite), Dr. Myuu (the supposed creator), General Rilldo (M-2's military commander), the Sigma Force (elite combat squad), Giru (the defecting scout unit), Luud (the worshipped idol), Mutchy (Luud's controller), Leon (a transforming unit), and Hell Fighter 17 (the duplicate Android). Each represents a different application of Machine Mutant technology, from raw military power to espionage to religious manipulation.
