Referee's Race

Race

The unnamed race of the Tournament of Destroyers referee is a sapient alien species found in Universe 7 and possibly Universe 6. They resemble Majin Buu in his pure form, with antennae and distinctive earholes, and members of this race served as tournament staff during the competition between Beerus and Champa.

Buu-Like but Entirely Different

Members of the Referee's Race bear a striking physical resemblance to certain forms of Majin Buu, particularly his Pure form. They share features like antennae protruding from their heads, peculiar skin coloring, and distinctive earholes. They also bear a minor resemblance to Jiren's Race from Universe 11. Despite these visual similarities, they are an entirely separate species with no known connection to the Majin lineage.

The race appears to be sapient and socially organized, with members holding professional positions that require communication skills and the ability to manage high-pressure situations. Their presence at a tournament overseen by Gods of Destruction suggests they are trusted enough to serve in events of cosmic significance.

Keeping Order Between Destroyers

The most prominent member of this race serves as the referee and announcer for the Tournament of Destroyers, the martial arts competition organized between Beerus of Universe 7 and Champa of Universe 6. In the Dragon Ball Super manga, several members of the species act as event staff, managing the logistics of a tournament where the combatants include Super Saiyan Blue Goku, Hit, and other fighters of extraordinary power.

The race makes another notable appearance during the Granolah the Survivor Saga. When Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Gas engage in a battle using Instant Transmission, rapidly teleporting across the universe, they briefly appear above what seems to be the homeworld of the Referee's Race. The Referee and a Singer of the same species are visible on the planet's surface, startled by the sudden appearance and equally sudden departure of two warriors locked in combat overhead.

Faces in the Crowd

A member of the Referee's Race was also spotted among the Galactic Patrol Prisoners during the Moro arc, indicating that not all members of this species are law-abiding tournament officials. This criminal member adds a layer of moral diversity to the race, showing that like most sentient species in the Dragon Ball multiverse, individuals range from dutiful professionals to wanted criminals.

The species remains unnamed, and no members have been given personal names beyond their job titles. They exist as one of many background alien races that help populate the Dragon Ball universe with a sense of scale and diversity, appearing just often enough across different arcs to suggest they are a notable presence in the cosmos without ever stepping into a central role.
