Garlic Jr.'s most dangerous ability, opening a portal to a void dimension called the Dead Zone that sucks in everything around it like a cosmic drain.
The Dead Zone technique allows Garlic Jr. to tear open a portal to a dimension of absolute emptiness. Once opened, the portal generates an immense gravitational pull that drags everything nearby toward it. Anything that crosses the threshold is trapped in the Dead Zone forever, floating in an endless void with no escape. The technique is essentially a one-way ticket to oblivion.
Unlike most Dragon Ball attacks that rely on the user's ki to cause damage, the Dead Zone is a dimensional rift that does not care about power levels. Whether a target has a power level of 5 or 5 million, once they are sucked in, they are gone. This makes it a genuine threat to even the most powerful fighters in the series.
Garlic Jr. uses the Dead Zone in both the Dragon Ball Z film of the same name and the Garlic Jr. Saga filler arc. In the film, after being overwhelmed by Goku and Piccolo's combined assault, Garlic Jr. opens the Dead Zone as a last resort to destroy his enemies. The plan backfires spectacularly when young Gohan, enraged by the threat to his father, unleashes a burst of hidden power that knocks Garlic Jr. into his own dimensional rift.
Garlic Jr. escapes the Dead Zone during the filler arc set between the Frieza and Android Sagas, only to make the exact same mistake again. After gaining power from the Makyo Star, he opens the Dead Zone once more, and once more he ends up being knocked into it. This time, with the Makyo Star destroyed, his return seems far less likely. It is a testament to Garlic Jr.'s arrogance that he keeps using a technique that has a 100% backfire rate.
What makes the Dead Zone uniquely terrifying is that Garlic Jr. actually wished for immortality using the Dragon Balls before deploying it. He cannot be killed, so being trapped in the void means he exists there forever, conscious and aware, in a dimension of absolute nothing. His immortality, meant to guarantee his victory, becomes the ultimate curse when combined with the Dead Zone.
The technique raises fascinating questions about the Dragon Ball cosmology. The Dead Zone appears to exist outside normal space and time, separate from Other World, the Demon Realm, and all other known dimensions. It is one of the few places in Dragon Ball lore where not even the Dragon Balls seem able to reach.
