Dead Zone

Garlic Jr. is the son of Garlic, a powerful being who once competed for the position of Guardian of Earth. When Garlic was rejected and sealed away by the previous Kami, his son vowed revenge. Garlic Jr. assembles a group of loyal henchmen and collects the Dragon Balls to wish for immortality.

After successfully gaining eternal life, Garlic Jr. kidnaps Gohan, believing the boy's hat contains a Dragon Ball. This draws Goku, Piccolo, and Krillin into a confrontation at Garlic's castle. Despite his immortality, Garlic Jr. is defeated when Gohan, in a burst of rage, pushes him into the Dead Zone, a void dimension that Garlic Jr. himself had opened.

Garlic Jr. Saga

Garlic Jr. returns during a filler arc set between the Frieza and Cell sagas. Taking advantage of the Makyo Star passing close to Earth, which amplifies his power enormously, he escapes the Dead Zone and launches a new assault.

He releases the Black Water Mist across the world, turning most of Earth's population into mindless, aggressive servants. Krillin, Gohan, and Piccolo confront him at Kami's Lookout. Despite his enhanced power and his ability to transform into a much larger, more muscular form, Garlic Jr. is ultimately defeated when Gohan destroys the Makyo Star, stripping him of his power boost. Garlic Jr. is pulled back into the Dead Zone once again, where his immortality ensures he remains trapped forever.
