Dragonthrow

Technique

Goku's go-to grapple technique. He grabs an opponent by whatever appendage is available, spins them around, and hurls them with tremendous force.

Simple but Effective

The Dragonthrow is beautifully straightforward. The user seizes any available part of their opponent, whether that's an arm, a leg, a tail, or even an antenna, and spins them with enough force to build devastating momentum before releasing them into the distance. What makes the technique special is not its complexity but its versatility. Goku has adapted the basic grab-and-throw concept to countless different situations across the entire franchise, making it one of the most frequently used physical techniques in Dragon Ball history.

Grabbing Frieza by the Tail

The Dragonthrow's most iconic use came during Goku's legendary battle with Frieza on Planet Namek. In the heat of their fight, Goku seized Frieza by his tail and swung the galactic tyrant around before launching him away. The technique also saw memorable use when Super Saiyan 3 Goku grabbed Majin Buu by his head tentacle near West City, spinning the rubbery Majin around before flinging him. Ultimate Gohan later performed the same trick on Super Buu, grabbing his antenna and whipping him through the air. Even Vegeta got in on the action, using a Dragonthrow variant to hurl Recoome into the mountains of Namek.

A Technique for Every Era

The Dragonthrow has appeared in virtually every era of Dragon Ball. In GT, Goku used it against Super Mega Cannon Sigma. During the Tournament of Power, he performed it on Super Saiyan 2 Caulifla while she was raining down a flurry of attacks. In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Frost used the throw to eliminate fighters, and Kefla used it against Super Saiyan God Goku. Good Buu even picked it up through mimicry, using it against Moro after apparently learning it from watching Goku use it on Innocent Buu years earlier. Bardock performed a particularly stylish variant in Episode of Bardock, swinging Chilled by his tail so fast that the alien lord left afterimages.
