A technique where the user shapes their ki into a blade extending from their hand, functioning as a sword made of pure energy. Used by fighters from Salza to Zamasu to Future Trunks.
The Energy Blade is exactly what it sounds like: a weapon made entirely of ki, projected from the user's hand. The blade can cut through physical matter with the same efficiency as any sword, and its power scales directly with the user's ki level. Unlike a physical weapon, the Energy Blade can be summoned instantly and dismissed at will, making it both convenient and versatile. The color, size, and shape of the blade vary by user, ranging from Salza's compact purple blade to Vegito's enormous Spirit Sword to Zamasu's crimson God Split Cut.
The first Energy Blade in Dragon Ball appeared as Salza's signature Salza Blade in Cooler's Revenge. Salza used it against Piccolo, slicing through trees with ease while attempting to cut down the powerful Namekian. Piccolo managed to dodge all of Salza's swings before grabbing his arm and shorting out the blade entirely. In the manga, the concept received its most iconic treatment with Vegito's Spirit Sword, which he used to carve up Super Buu (Gohan absorbed) during their battle. The Spirit Sword was enormous, extending far beyond the length of a normal blade, and Vegito wielded it with casual dominance.
The various incarnations of Zamasu made Energy Blades central to their fighting style through the God Split Cut technique. Goku Black wielded a particularly vicious variant called the Violent Fierce God Slicer in his Super Saiyan Rose form, using it both as a melee weapon and a projectile. Future Trunks created perhaps the most emotionally charged Energy Blade of all during his final stand against Fused Zamasu: the Sword of Hope, formed from the hilt of his broken sword and powered by the collective energy of Earth's surviving humans. Numerous other fighters across the Tournament of Power displayed their own Energy Blade variants, from Dyspo's quick-draw blue blade to Kahseral's dual-wielded Justice Sabers.
