Zamasu's signature technique, which creates a blade of purple ki energy around his hand capable of slicing through nearly anything. Both the original Zamasu and Goku Black use variations of this technique throughout the "Future" Trunks Saga.
Zamasu generates a concentrated field of purple energy around his right hand, shaping it into a razor-sharp blade. The weapon is powerful enough to bisect much larger opponents in a single swing, as demonstrated against a Babarian during Zamasu's initial training. Beyond its offensive applications, the blade can also serve as a medium for launching ki blasts (the Heavenly Arrow variant) or as a defensive tool for deflecting attacks.
The technique's Japanese name, Shin Retsuzan, translates roughly to "God Rending Slash," reflecting its divine origin and cutting purpose.
The God Split Cut's story is deeply intertwined with Zamasu's descent into villainy. He first nearly uses it against Goku after losing their sparring match, his wounded pride almost driving him to attack before Gowasu intervenes. He later threatens Zuno with the blade to extract information about the Super Dragon Balls and Goku.
The technique becomes the instrument of Zamasu's crimes. In the original timeline, he murders Gowasu with it while the Supreme Kai drinks his tea, an act that Whis reverses by rewinding time. When Zamasu tries again, Whis teleports a ki-resistant oven mitt onto his hand. His third attempt is caught effortlessly by Beerus, who destroys Zamasu with Hakai.
In the unaltered timeline, the Zamasu who becomes Goku Black successfully uses the God Split Cut to kill Gowasu and Future Gowasu. Most horrifyingly, he uses it to murder Goku's family after stealing his body, killing Chi-Chi and Goten while they can only watch in terror. Goku Black later evolves the technique into the Violent Fierce God Slicer, creating an extended rose-colored blade using his Super Saiyan Rose aura. This version spawns further variants including the Divine Lasso and the Sickle of Sorrow.
One of Dragon Ball Super's most unexpectedly comedic moments involves this deadly technique. When Beerus and Whis travel to Universe 10 to prevent Zamasu from killing Gowasu, Whis handles the situation with characteristic nonchalance. As Zamasu activates the God Split Cut and lunges at Goku, Whis simply teleports a heat-resistant oven mitt onto Zamasu's blade hand, completely neutralizing the attack. It's a reminder that the angels operate on an entirely different level, turning what should be a tense confrontation into slapstick comedy.
In video games, the technique appears in Xenoverse 2 as Aura Slide, in Legends as Fierce God Slicer, and in Dragon Ball Heroes as God Slicer, where it's available to multiple Hero Avatars.
