Four Witches Technique

Technique

A Triclops racial ability that allows the user to sprout two additional arms from their back, doubling their striking power. Tien Shinhan famously used it against Goku at the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament.

Growing Extra Arms

The Four Witches Technique is unique among Dragon Ball abilities because it's not a ki-based attack but a physical transformation specific to the Triclops race. The user concentrates and forces two additional arms to grow from beneath their shoulder blades, giving them four functional limbs for combat. This effectively doubles their ability to strike, grapple, and defend simultaneously.

The technique's Japanese name, Shiyoken, translates to "Four Supernatural Fists," reflecting its origins as a trait of the three-eyed people rather than something any martial artist can learn through training.

Tien vs. Goku at the 22nd Tournament

Tien deploys the Four Witches Technique during the finals of the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament against Goku. The extra arms immediately give him a significant advantage, allowing him to attack from multiple angles simultaneously. Goku finds himself overwhelmed for a moment, unable to effectively block strikes coming from four directions at once.

But Goku, ever the quick study, responds with King Chappa's Eight-Arm Fist technique, moving his two arms so fast they create the illusion of eight. The counter works beautifully, neutralizing Tien's four-arm advantage. When Goku seizes Tien's legs and lifts them in the air, Tien tries to use his extra arms to choke Goku out, but the pain from his legs being held up forces the extra arms to retract.

Farming with Four Arms

In a wonderfully mundane detail confirmed by Toriyama in a 2013 interview, Tien uses the Four Witches Technique combined with Multi-Form after Kid Buu's defeat to help with farming. It's the most practical application of a supernatural ability in the entire series.

Return in Dragon Ball Super

The technique resurfaces in Dragon Ball Super during episode 89, when Tien uses it against a Jiang Shi-possessed Master Roshi at his martial arts dojo. It's a welcome callback to one of Tien's oldest tricks, reminding fans that the three-eyed warrior has capabilities beyond the Tri-Beam and Solar Flare.

Despite being a relatively simple technique compared to the god-level powers flying around in Super, the Four Witches Technique remains one of the most visually distinctive abilities in Dragon Ball. No other character can replicate it, making it a signature part of Tien's identity as the last known Triclops on Earth.
