With Ginyu's Body Change beam hurtling toward Vegeta, Goku throws himself into the line of fire at the last possible moment. The familiar white light engulfs them both, and when it fades, Goku is back in his own body, though critically wounded from the damage Ginyu inflicted on it. He attempts a Kamehameha to end things, but his battered body cannot aim properly, and the blast goes wide.
Vegeta seizes the moment to pummel Ginyu mercilessly, not realizing that the captain is deliberately absorbing punishment. Ginyu does not need to win the fistfight; he just needs Vegeta close enough for one more Body Change. As Vegeta hurls him skyward and Ginyu activates the technique, Goku spots a Namekian frog nearby. In a flash of desperate ingenuity, he throws the frog into the beam's path. The switch completes, but instead of claiming Vegeta's powerful body, Ginyu's consciousness is locked inside a small, croaking amphibian. The frog's mind, now occupying Ginyu's original form, hops around aimlessly. Vegeta nearly crushes the Ginyu-frog underfoot, but Goku talks him down. Living as a frog, they agree, is punishment enough.
With the immediate threat neutralized, Vegeta takes charge. He leads the exhausted group into Frieza's ship, places Goku inside a Medical Machine to heal, and outfits Gohan and Krillin with Frieza's stretchy, durable battle armor. As Goku's body slowly mends, Krillin decides he cannot wait around and sets out to find Guru and obtain the Dragon Ball password before Frieza returns.
Captain Ginyu's defeat is pure Dragon Ball at its finest: a villain undone not by a stronger attack or a flashier transformation but by quick thinking and a frog. Goku cannot punch his way out of this situation. His body is wrecked, his energy is nearly gone, and his opponent's technique bypasses raw power entirely. So he uses his brain. The frog gambit is improvised, messy, and slightly absurd, and it works perfectly.
There is also a subtle commentary on Ginyu's entire philosophy. He built his career on stealing the achievements of others. In the end, the universe gives him a body that matches that parasitic ambition: small, powerless, and completely dependent on what others leave behind.
The scene of Gohan and Krillin trying on Saiyan battle armor is a fan-favorite moment. Vegeta explains that the material expands to fit any body type, which is why his armor survived his Great Ape transformation back on Earth. Krillin's reaction, wondering aloud why the villains always have the best gear, is a comedic highlight and spawned the beloved dub line "Whoa, mondo cool!"
Goku's terror at seeing a needle before entering the Medical Machine is anime-only comedy that reinforces his childlike personality. Even after fighting the deadliest warriors in the universe, a simple medical procedure can reduce him to panic. It is a small humanizing touch that keeps Goku grounded despite his godlike power.
