Junya Furusawa

Furusawa worked as an official artist during Dragon Ball Z's production at Toei Animation, contributing background animation and artwork during his time with the studio. His involvement spanned from his college years, when he was hired as an official artist while still pursuing his degree. He earned recognition for his exceptional ability to replicate Toriyama's distinctive art style, a skill that initially brought him professional opportunities within the franchise. His work extended across promotional materials and official artwork supporting the series.

Beyond his professional animation work, Furusawa became legendary within the Dragon Ball fan community for self-published doujinshi, fan works that showcased his encyclopedic knowledge of the franchise's vast cast. His most famous fan effort, the "Jun'ya Furusawa Rough Sketchbook: F-WORKS," became a collector's item, featuring basic sketches and personal illustrations that demonstrated his deep love for the Dragon World.

Furusawa's career expanded beyond Dragon Ball into manga, where he co-authored "The Legend of Zelda: Oath of Riruto" with Jin Munesue, serialized from 1994 to 1997 in the bimonthly Shounen Oh magazine. He worked as an independent designer and comic illustrator under the pen name Furujun (ふるじゅん), publishing fan art in anime magazines alongside his official duties. His dual passions for professional animation work and personal artistic expression defined his approach to art. Tragically, Furusawa disappeared while traveling by small ship in early 2020 and was formally declared deceased on May 1st, 2020, at age unknown. His legacy endures through his distinctive artwork and the affection Dragon Ball fans hold for his contributions to the franchise's visual culture.
