Holy Joestar-Kira

Though she has reached middle age, Holy keeps a youthful face framed by long brown hair, drawn with blue eyes in the colored editions, and her Western heritage shows in her features. Early on she is dressed in a hooded cape over concealed clothing, the collar stamped with a capital letter H and the legs plated in small metal squares, all topped by a flowered white hat bearing a second H, and at first she also wears sunglasses. Once the story moves past her hospitalization, the hood tends to vanish, and her hair is shown having grown out longer and wavier.

A neurological affliction, caused by the ring of Locacaca-pushing colleagues who kept dosing her, leaves Holy confusing living people with inanimate things. Under proper care she can still hold an ordinary exchange, greeting Yasuho as a person and even recognizing the girl's Stand while her thoughts drift toward her son. Her state later worsens sharply: she stops knowing faces and tries to gnaw off her own fingers. Whatever the damage, she never stops holding Yoshikage in high esteem. Flashbacks paint a very different woman, a devoted physician who fought to keep a dying Josefumi alive and begged Kira to help save him. She also loved to read, once pressing The Rose of Versailles on Josefumi, though by the present her tastes had slipped toward racy magazines.

Born in 1959 to Joseph Joestar and Suzi Q, Holy carried the family line forward through her children Yoshikage and Kei, both descendants of Johnny Joestar. She built a career in ophthalmology at T.H. Medical University Hospital across roughly a decade before moving on to teach at Morioh's T.G. University. Along the way she rescued a young Josefumi Kujo, ordering her son to use Killer Queen to clear a lethal blood clot from the boy, and years later she quietly counseled a teenage Yasuho after a suicide attempt. That debt owed to the Kira family set Yoshikage and Josefumi on the path that eventually produced Josuke.

By the present, Holy is a patient rather than a doctor. Scans reveal portions of her organs and brain gone with surgical neatness yet no scars, and she treats a nurse as if it were footwear, signs of the dementia the Locacaca left behind. Josuke finds her strapped down and abandoned in a dusty ward because her fees went unpaid, and he swears both to settle them and to hunt the fruit that might restore her. It later emerges that Holy herself established the hidden Locacaca lab at the university, though her research failed. Near the finale she rouses enough to save a badly wounded Josuke with Locacaca 6251, warning him away from Wonder of U before sinking back down. With the Locacaca destroyed and equivalent exchange no longer possible, she remains trapped in her coma.
