Appearance

Shiryu is a tall, tan man rising to about 3.4 meters, roughly on par with his captain Teach. His long face carries a broad-bridged nose, full lips usually clamped around a large cigar, and a jutting, flat-tipped chin. Instead of prison clothing, he held onto his old Head Jailer outfit, a dark double-breasted trench coat under a white overcoat bearing the kanji for prison across the back, topped by a peaked officer's cap. After the timeskip he still wears that outfit with minor changes, the old Impel Down emblems swapped for a plain skull and gold fringe added to the epaulettes.

Personality

At heart Shiryu is a bloodthirsty killer who relishes cutting people down whenever the chance arises, having once butchered countless inmates simply because no one would miss them. He keeps a calm, cool manner with a near-constant relaxed smile, yet he is treacherous by nature, betraying Magellan the instant it suited him. Devoted to his blade, he delights in testing it on anyone, far beneath his level or not, and he scolds his crewmates for carelessness or poor preparation. A fatalist, he believes destiny led him to Blackbeard, and Oda has noted he also harbors a perverted streak.

Abilities

Even before gaining a Devil Fruit, Shiryu was reckoned equal in strength to Warden Magellan and was placed on Level 6 as a grave threat. A master swordsman, he wields the famous nodachi Raiu and can fell several foes in an instant, and he is a gifted stealth fighter, slipping through the prison's tight security undetected. After his crew killed Absalom, Shiryu claimed the Suke Suke no Mi, whose Paramecia power renders him and anything he holds invisible, letting him ambush powerful targets such as Gecko Moria and Monkey D. Garp. He also wields Armament Haki, coating his sword to deadly effect. Following the timeskip he rose to Titanic Captain over the second ship, guarding the Emperor, and in the Final Saga he impaled Garp during the assault on Hachinosu before being overwhelmed.
