A Piece of Cake

Class 1-A drills their Quirks ahead of a hunt for whoever still remains of the Paranormal Liberation Front and the League of Villains. The session prompts Mina Ashido to ask Izuku Midoriya whether juggling six extra Quirks alongside One For All gets confusing. He admits it does, but says the Sixth User's advice made that part workable: picture the whole set as tools he swaps between as needed.

Purely for amusement, Izuku had filled a journal with hypotheticals extending that mindset to his classmates, mapping out how their Quirks might mesh when paired off. Toru Hagakure, Mina, Kyoka Jiro, Fumikage Tokoyami, Mashirao Ojiro, and Rikido Sato all want a look. Kyoka and Mashirao start reading, Izuku tries to slip away mortified, and Ochaco Uraraka and Tsuyu Asui block his exit. The class finds the depth of his offhand analysis genuinely impressive.

Katsuki Bakugo does not. He objects to a note claiming a pairing with Shoto Todoroki would be unbeatable, reading it as an accusation that he cannot manage on his own. Shoto asks what he means, and Katsuki insists his Cluster technique leaves Shoto far behind and that Flashfreeze Heatwave is a knockoff of it. Shoto suggests the resemblance means they may simply build Ultimate Moves along the same lines, which only stokes Katsuki further. Amid the familiar bickering, Hanta Sero observes that growing stronger through collaboration is nothing to complain about, and thinks it is rather cool.

Izuku explains that he manages his inherited Quirks by imagining them as interchangeable tools, a framing he credits to En Tayutai, the Sixth User of One For All.

His notebook of hypothetical Quirk combinations becomes public within Class 1-A, sparking an argument between Katsuki and Shoto over whether a joint effort would make either of them invincible.

All Might, watching from the U.A. Barrier control room as the students depart in an armored van, reaches for his briefcase and concludes the age of a Symbol of Peace has passed. Dark Might, Anna Scervino, Giulio Gandini, and Class 1-A are each shown preparing to act.

The chapter runs seven pages and was collected in the tie-in book Volume Next, released in Japan on August 2nd, 2024 and through VIZ on October 8, 2024. Anna Scervino debuts here, and the story was later adapted as an OVA sharing its title.

All Might's closing reflection imagines The Mother of Quirks scolding him for fearing reliance on others, a rebuke he hopes she would deliver if they ever met.

Two points of trivia stand out. This is the sole movie tie-in chapter without an accompanying special chapter number, and although it reached English readers through the Shonen Jump app, VIZ did not handle the translation. Toho did, the same team responsible for Hawks: Soothe.
